Steering Wheel Lock And Check Engine Light

Recommended Posts

Well, I had an interesting day yesterday. I parked on an uphill slope for about an hour with the wheels at about half turn. When I started up the engine, the check engine light stayed on and I checked the gauges and everything looked fine so I figured the light wasn't an issue and it would probably go out as soon as I put it in gear. Well, I put it in reverse and started backing up but I noticed the steering wheel required an immense amount of force to move (steering pump failure?) and the check engine light stayed on. I didn't know what to think so I put it in park, shut it off, and restarted. That cleared everything up and the steering went back to normal, and I haven't had any problems since. Does anyone know what caused this?

Also, I've noticed that my oil pressure used to run at 50-55 (sometimes 45 at idle). Suddenly it runs at 40-45 (and sometimes 35). I checked the oil and there's plenty of it and it looks fine. Are there any ideas about what is going on here? Should I be worried?

TIA
