Additional Battery Space

I saw what I think to be a space for an extra battery in my Sierra, has anyone installed one of these before? Do you hook it up to your usual battery or is it just there to jump you off if you need it?

Looks like you drive a 99-2006 style truck? The factory 2nd battery was next to the firewall on the passenger side. You can order the tray from your dealer and wire directly in to existing system.

I have 2011 with an extra battery space up front. The Battery in use, factory installed, is next the firewall on the passenger side.

It would seem like somebody could build a storage box to go under the hood to fill in that battery space.

Here are some ideas...

I hooked up my 2nd battery together with the start battery, but you can also add an isolator to prevent discharge. I ordered my new truck with 2 batteries, and have already used the 2nd battery to boost my starting battery. Note that the 06 and prior trucks had the start battery on the LH front corner and the my new body has the start battery on the RH side next to firewall.

I have a 2007 new body style, I am thinking about adding a second battery so my truck wont die if I use the truck bed light to skin a deer

CJ, there is another post on this forum that lists all the OEM parts and part numbers you can get to add the second battery in the stock location. The second battery already has a tray in the front driver corner ahead of the main fuse box. There is a clamp and wire harness as well as other small parts that hooks the second battery into the main fuse box system with a very clean stock look. Just run a search in this forum and I'm sure you will find it. I'm planning to do the same myself. I would suggest using a deep cycle marine battery for the second. I use Optima blue tops in my Toyhauler (two of them). They are expensive but worth it. Wal-Mart has some less expensive ones as well.
