Onstar and Radio Problems

Hey All,

So i'm having a problem with my onstar and radio right now. Not sure what caused this, but my radio will not turn on and my onstar is also not functioning ( i have a red light at the mirror). Any ideas what could be causing this? The only thing I can think of is a bad fuse, but I cant find any fuses listed for radio/onstar. Help is much appreciated!

Thanks!

Your door chimes, turn signal, radio all run through the Onstar module. The red LED is telling you that there is a fault in the system. Probably a dead Onstar box if you cannot find any bad fuses. Still in warranty?

Thats actually what I'm starting to think. Do the onstar modules have a lockout in them that detects if the radio was accidentally hot unplugged? Everything was operating find earlier this morning, but it just stopped and now nothing from the radio nor onstar. Would a bad onstar module be covered under warranty if i no longer had the stock radio in the vehicle? My truck is still under bumper to bumper so if this is the problem I'm hoping so.

I have an aftermarket radio as well, and use a kit that interfaces with the onstar and steering wheel controls. My onstar module went out and I took it to the dealer for repair. They advised me that I should install the factory radio before bringing it in so that there would be no questions asked. I did this, and they fixed it with no problems. Consult a dealer that you trust because it would be easy to blame non factory parts and deny warranty service.

Did you do the install yourself? What interface unit did you use? It is possible that this unit has failed and not the onstar module.

My radio is the Advent OGM1, but I also reinstalled the stock radio and get nothing from it as well. The Stock radio front panel lights come on, but nothing more. I did install myself although everything was functioning properly i just went to install the head unit microphone and now the system isn't responding. I even tried calling onstar to see if they could run a diagnostic or knew if the onstar system could cause a lockout like this, but they were no help at all... although they did give me a free three month extension of onstar... lol. I really wish there was a way to test my head unit and make sure it hasn't gone bad. I'm praying not since I just dropped a lot of money on the nav unit.

The onstar module does not lockout anything. The radio passes through unless it sense a call from onstar / bluetooth and then routes the phone to the speaker. Sounds like the onstar module has gone out. Take it to the dealer with the factory radio and they will fix you right up.

Sounds good. I'll have to go to the dealership tomorrow and see whats up. How long did it take them to fix your truck when it happened to you?

About ten minutes including diagnosing the problem! But, I don't have Onstar activated so the did not have to call them and make any changes.
