[96 silverado]

I have a 96' Silverado from the brickyard with all the silly stickers and numbered.  Anyways I put a gibson swepted side exhaust and a set of headers from summit.  I put a k@n filter in and about a week or two later the service engine light came on.  I checked it and work and it said the system was to lean???  wondering if anyone else has had this problem.  The truck has a 100,000 miles on it. It has the 350 vortec, at, 2wd

I have a K&N FIPK and a Gibson exhaust on my truck and have had no problems over the last 5K miles.

I had a K&N on our 98 Suburban and put 25k on the filter with no problems.  I have hurd some say that if the K&N is soaked with to much of the oil that it will get sucked into the intake and coat the Mass Air Flow sensor. Now that is what I have hurd, no real truth to it from what I can tell. How that would make things seem lean I'm not sure. To me it would make it rich, if it couldn't sense the air flow.

Disconnect the neg battery terminal for about 15 minutes and then reconnect it.  This should clear your computer.  

 

Then run the truck normally and see if the computer can "relearn" itself to your new mods...

Does disconnecting the battery actually reset the computer??? Not sure... Ive always been told that you have to pull the ecm fuses and so thats what Ive always done... Its always worked on all the vehicles Ive worked on (including mine) and it keeps you from having to reset your clock and radio stations...

I think that should work too...  The object is to remove power to the computer, I don't think it matters how that is done.  :thumb:

This same issue was kicked around over on ZR2.com and the concensus was the filter was over-oiled.  Did you just drop in a new one (pre-oiled) or did you oil it yourself?

 

Over-saturation can screw up the MAS as stated earlier.
