94 4.3L low power, poor gas mileage

After market converter + welding + manifold gaskets + tax = $137

Runs great, shifts smoother, just generally feels healthy again. I'm put some GM Upper Engine and Injection cleaner in the gas tank and will make the 263 mile road trip again Monday. I'll get back to you on the gas mileage.

Many, many thanks guys.

Just got back from my trip. Mileage is up to 18MPG which is MUCH better that the 12 MPG I got last time and is a little better than what I was getting before the problem started. I think maybe the GM top end cleaner helped a little. I'm happy with it.

BTW, another symptom for future reference. I go up and down quite a few hills on my trip and I noticed this time there was noticably less downshifting than on the previous 12 MPG trip. Probably because of the increased power from the engine. That also partially explains the poor highway mileage I'm sure - higher RPM = higher fuel consumption.

Many, many thanks guys and a Merry Christmas to all.
