You should call Gregg at CPS Audio/Video at 707-588-9300, he would be the best person to talk to about them, very friendly person to talk to, he answered all of the questions I asked.

Just curious, what is different about the new gm nav radios compared to the one I could have gotten in my 2011 duramax? I have an advent ogm1 installed and really like it but factory is always nice if it provides all the features I need.

For one it has an internal hard drive to store the map data on and for you to also store mp3's on as well. It now has XM weather feature and a cleaner easier to use user interface compared to my brothers 07 GMC Acadia.

Good to know. Does it have the capability of controlling Pandora right from the head unit like the OGM-1 and the MyLink in other Chevy vehicles? Also is it capable of playing DVD's on the head unit while driving and/or outputting video signal to headrest monitors?

It does not play pandora but yes it does play DVDs and yes with the purchase of the video harness from Gregg at CPS audio video you can output dvd to external monitors and also input from external dvd players if you want too. As for viewing DVD's in motion you can only do it with the external monitors, you can't watch them on its own screen while you drive without a lockpick device.

is it compatible with the on star remote link app? so you can remote start it from your iPhone? or is that a model year issue?

Unfortunately it has nothing to do with the remote link from onstar, that is a complete separate system from the Navigation radio.

Aaron do you have much experience with the Advent OGM-1? Still kind of thinking about switching to the 2012 Nav unit. Just wondering what your thoughts were on comparing the two. Something to be said for being factory. About the only function I would lose would be my Pandora control. I assume the Pandora on the 2012 Nav unit will display song info and stuff from Pandora, and let you change tracks with the steering wheel controls. Just have to use the phone to change playlists, thumbs up, thumbs down, ect.

I have no experience with the Advent unit, I have never had the chance to play with one yet, I just wanted it all OEM in my truck. The 2012 GM OEM Nav unit will not interact at all with Pandora, you will have to use the aux input jack and control Pandora completely through the phone.

Hey Guys,

Has anyone attempted to upgrade their 07-11 GM Truck and install the 2012 GM Hard Drive Navigation Unit? I have my 2011 Sierra Denali and would really like to learn more, or possibly pursue this upgrade to receive the added features of this unit.

My 2011 Sierra Denali appears to have different plugs on the back of the radio, compared to the new 2012 units. I am assuming maybe there is a different audio harness which ties into the actual dash harness, as all the other electronics in the dash appears to be the same, except for the radio.

I'm all ears, and wouldn't mind learning about what it takes to make this happen!

Does anyone have any input??

Will you be installing yourself? I know it's a bit difficult, but definitely do-able. I recently helped a family member do this exact same upgrade & it took a little expertise to get it up and running. You will need a wire harness conversion kit. I got all everything from www.oempartsco.com. Radio can be pre-programmed as well, but that's extra, yet convenient. The conversion kit came with all the necessary wire harnesses and installing the gps antenna wasn't too difficult. Here's their email if you want to contact them yourself: [email protected]. They were very helpful and worked with us on the price for everything also, which was a big plus in my book.

Brand new to this forum and new to GM.

I just bought a 2012 Yukon Denali and getting familiar with the Navigation system with Hard Drive. This seems pretty useless for music as most will have an iPhone or ipod to connect and run libraries from or connect to pandora etc... I did think it would be sweet to load all the kids DVD's from so they aren't all rolling around in the console. Is there a way to rip DVD's and have them played on the infotainment system?

Thanks for any advice,

Matt.

Does anyone have, or been able to find a video of the navigation in use? I'm looking at adding the hdd navigation but would like to see the unit in use, giving directions to see if I even like the software before investing the money..

Only thing that comes up in searches is the older models and not many showing in use other then flips between menus

    • Well that book won't sell many copies. Taking ones right foot off the loud pedal never gets applause. Funny really, It isn't that people don't know what to do...they just don't want to do it. But they will complain about it. About bad craftsmanship, about the cost of fuel, about the cost of part and repairs and mainly they complain that the solution while still possible isn't one they are willing to do.    I observe this daily. 'Gas cost to much!", they wail, while they mat it passing at 80+ mpg and scoot down the road like gas cost a dime a gallon. Then complain about the few that will lift and save both fuel and iron like they are owed and own the road.    Good thing they haven't an ounce of influence on my equipment. The rest I just laugh at. Stupid is as stupid does, right Forest?
    • Today I filled up with 4.899 gallons of fuel at a cost of $4.899 a gallon. $24 bucks. 290 miles. 59.2 mpg. After my 4% COSTCO discount just under eight cents a mile.
    • Howdy folks,   Recently I pulled a heated steering wheel and clock spring out of a 2015 Sierra All Terrain (part numbers coming soon - will have to disassemble), and just installed it on my 2016 Sierra WT (as base model as it gets).   On install, I noticed that I’m missing the connector often tucked behind the dash for the heating element.     No problem… or so I thought.   I used an “Add-A-Fuse” at my heated steering wheel fuse location, which has voltage, but no wires. I ran it to the positive of the heated steering wheel (Violet/White), and took black to ground.   Hooked up the battery, turned the truck on - no heated steering wheel. No button backlights. Was pleased to see that my cruise control was working though.   Read a post suggesting reversing polarity, so I gave it a shot. Violet and White to ground, Black to power.    Aha! Heat! But I seemingly can’t turn it off AND still no backlights on any of the buttons.    Checked all fuses, everything is still in good order. I’m stumped.   Does anyone have any insight? If so, please share!
    • I'm about 1800 miles into my last oil change, and yesterday a message appeared saying oil life was at 77%. Not sure why it popped up but I think all of these electronics could be susceptible to solar flares or somesuch. I change my oil right at 3K each time, and that was the first time in 10870 miles that message came up. Strange thing is that it showed on the screen at all since I don't drive with that sort of info displayed on the DIC.
    • I’m praying that someone sees this and can help me out… pulled a heated steering wheel and clock spring out of a 2015 Sierra All Terrain, and just installed it on my 2016 Sierra WT (as base model as it gets).   On install, I noticed that I’m missing the connector often tucked behind the dash.     No problem… or so I thought.   I used an “Add-A-Fuse” at my heated steering wheel fuse location, which has voltage, but no wires.
