rebuilding g80 locker

it's come to my attention that the g80 in my 98 silverado 4x4 is no longer working.

 

I'm debating weather or not to rebuild it, it's convenient to have, however i dont really need it for everyday driving.

 

Has anyone else rebuilt their g80 or had someone do it? and how much did it cost?

 

One of my friends is studying to be an automotive engineer at ferris state university and one of his professors said he would rebuild the g80 for me for free if i supply the parts, but i haven't been able to locate a rebuild kit for one of these differentials. Has anyone else had any luck?

 

TL;DR I might rebuild my g80, give me your input
