Advice for setting up 6.0

To start out I'm new to the site so if I put the wrong topic in the wrong spot please let me know.

I would like to spruce up my 6.0. Mainly looking to make it more driveable. I love the truck but it could use some tuning up. Seems like when you drive it easy it's kinda doggy but when you step it down it's all or none.

I had programmers in two Ford diesels. The 7.3 was a Superchip and it made a nice towing combo. It was a mild chip. I don't remember what the h.p and torque gains were. The 6.0 diesel I put a Edge in and had a disaster. Enough said.

So long story short I would like to tune my new rig up. My goals are, improving shifting, smoother acceleration, a more free running engine... for a lack of better words.

If the mileage improved that would be a huge plus. I get 10-13, but I have not made adjustments for the larger tires. The truck should be broke in with 18,000 miles on it.

What can I expect from the tuner you recommend and what would cost be?

Do they void the warranty?

There are a few other things I want to add, step bars and possibly air bags.

Thanks ahead of time.

Thanks for the link. After spending some time time on this site I found answers to all the questions I had.

I'm going to get in touch with Justin and get rolling. I wish I could do a in person tune but I don't see that happening because of my location.

Would I be better off to wait til he comes to chicago in april and drive the 7 hours or do it via mail? Not quite sure of how the process works but it seems most people on here prefer to do the in person tune..

When I first got my truck I did their cable tune and it worked great. However, I do plan on buying the autocal from blackbear and getting it retuned when I have a little money because there was something about not being able to tune the transmission because the computer was actually in the transmission and had to be tuned either in person or through the autocal. I haven't decided if I want to get a new exhaust and intake first too. But again, waiting on the money.

I'm getting the feeling I am best of to wait til april and go to Chicago to do a in person tune.

Does intake work do much for performance or mileage.?

Thanks for the help

Does anyone know what or if a core charge appies if you do a in person tune? For the cost of the core I can drive to the windy city.

From what I read for the most part intakes and exhaust dont do a whole lot except make it sound better. But I figure if you get them and then get the engine tuned to take advantage of the higher flow they'd be more worthwhile and actually help more. As far as core charge there was one for the cable tune but they refund that if you send the original computer back so unless you're keeping it as an extra it's really only the cost of shipping.
