285's too.

Do a look around at those that post here in the HD forum.  Not only will you find who's got what on their trucks, but a plethora of threads asking the same question you asked.

Majority here have 285's.  But a few have 265's and even a few have 305 or 315's also.  The major problem is the HD's 16" rim isn't as wide as the 1500's 16" rim.  Ours are 16x6.5 vs. the standard 16x8.  So this limits tire size choices a little.

245/70/19.5  GoodYears on Rickson rims

Which Goodyears you running? Ever used Brdgestone 724's? We have a set of these on the rear on the F550. Very grippy tire for a 19.5 with a F load range. The stock ones were junk for traction, but lasted almost 50K before the valve stems blew.

Any idea what 1500cc had to do to get the 315's on a 2003 GMC. I've got a 2003 2500HD and I tried to put some AE 16X8 wheels on it with 285 BFG's and they rubbed the front air dam. I then tried 265's on the same wheels and they still hit when trying to turn, and I don't mean at full lock either. Because the air dam is body color, I would have to repaint it if I cut it at all. The Chevy's go straight down in the wheel well part, the GMC's kind of curve under the truck towards the center. Because of this, the tires hit with aftermarket wheels. Every wheel I could find had a 4" backspacing where as the stock ones have around 5" or 5 1/4".  I tried the 265's on stock wheels and they clear fine.

4" backspacing is just never going to work for you.

my 16x8 weld ss II's have 4-5/8 backspacing and I still had to trim the air dam and cut portions out fro the plastic wheel whell liner where the 285 tires made contact at full lock.  I did choose not to crank the t-bars though.

take your wheels back if you can and get something with more backspacing.

Thanks for the comments.  The wheels are going back next weekend. I think I'll just stick with the stock polished aluminum wheels for now.  I may end up changing them out later.

Lots of guys run the 285's, but if you don't mind a narrower tire, consider the 255/85.  Perfect fit for the stock rim, and a little taller than a 285.  Not as many tires available in this size compared to the 285, but a good selection.  I've had 255/85 TrXus MT's for a few months, no rubbing problems whatsoever.  I haven't adjusted my T-bars yet, but plan to only to get the truck closer to level.
