2004 silverado dash noise

My 4 door Z71 makes a winding noise when it is moving (sometimes). The noise comes from the dash area and the noise slightly varies with speed. I can even hear it when im in reverse and I move backwards pretty fast. It is a winding / low grinding type of noise. Can anyone help?

Mine did that when I tried moving my steering wheel adjuster up and down in a parking lot when the vehicle was on. Then when I drove away it was making the noise you describe for a little bit like 3 mins and then went away . It scared me but my noise could be something totally different.

Something under my dash makes a winding noise for a few seconds, but only when I fool with the air/fan controls. There's some kind of small, loud motor that opens/closes recirculation vents. I was told the noise is normal. Frankly I've never heard it in other vehicles but it's not objectionably loud, just bothered me until I figured out what it was.
