Goodyear mt/r's or BFG A/T's

The MTR's have a much more aggressive grip than the BFG AT.Both tires are well made and high quality construction, and in my opinion 2 of the best tires on the market ,hands down. The MTR's are extremely quiet for such an aggressive grip.I guess it all depends on the look and performance you need when off of the pavement..........Gun

MTR stands for = Maximum-Traction Reinforced Sidewall and yes they have great traction.I expect to get about 40K out of this set.......Gun

Take a look at the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo.  I just put a set on my truck and they are very good.  Currently, they are very hard to find because they are sitting on ships out on the west coast.  Aggressive tread and quiet at highway speeds.  They carry a rating of 500 and traction A.

You are comparing a mud terrain tire to a all terrain tire.  Two different tires with two different purposes.  The M/Ts are more aggresive for the purpose of mud.  The A/Ts are less aggresive for more on road use and your occasional offroad adventure.  This is my third set of BFG A/Ts and never have had a flat or low tire pressure.  One time I had four nails in one tire and drove on it for a week before getting repaired and the tire never lossed pressure.  My last set had 50000 miles on them and when I traded in my truck the tires still had at least a 1/4" of tread.  I think they could of lasted another 10000.  Offroad, the tires have pulled me through some deep nasty mud and sharp rocks. If you do a lot of highway driving then I would go with the A/Ts.

I have the BFG AT KO's on my new truck but just bought the MTR's about a month ago for an old truck I use for hunting and roading my dogs. I have been very happy with the BFG's. My only problem with the MTR's is at highway speeds of greater than 45-50 mph I can get a wicked swaying motion started. I replaced the shocks with Bilsteins and still had the sway. Local garage checked the front end and said that the sway is due to the tire sidewall. It is a great tire though off road. I see some of you guys running them on your daily drives and wonder if your having the same problem?

From what I understand the Mud Terrains and All Terrains are the same compound,  they just have a different tread. So the swaying must be coming from the truck and not the tire. Did you have any swaying before the new tire?

I am considering BFG MTs or ATs, if they sway, the MTs will be out of the question. I don't need my truck swaying while puling the 6 place snowmobile trailer up north. I really don't think it's the tires though.

I have no problem with as you say(swaying) and I usually run my truck about 80 on the interstate.Sounds like you have a problem with your truck.Alot of this depends on your tire size too.You will have some floating feeling with the taller tires.Fennsz,We are talking Goodyear MTR's here not the BFG MT which is a good tire but definatley not in the class of the MTR,IMO...Gun

I'll second that.  I got a set of Revo's on my Z71 back in October or November and they're doing great.  Wet traction just blows the stock Wilderness AT's away.  We've had a little snow too, and the snow traction is great.  The tread is more aggressive than the Wildernesses, but I have noticed no increase in road noise.  I did see that the new Z71's at my dealer today are sitting on Dueler AT's...not the Revo's though, and YES There is a difference.  Just give it a look, I got a good tire for a good price.

I have the Goodyear MTR's 235/75/15 on the old truck. They replaced Michelin LTX's and I had no swaying before the swap. Could it be that the swaying with the MTR's occurs only on the smaller diameter tires - most of you run much larger tires? I would welcome any ideas on how I can make these work out for me.

Gun - I may as well come clean on this one. The old truck is a hunting truck (beater) and is two wheel drive. I just spent a ton on wheels and tires for the new truck and was looking for a cheap off road tire for the old truck. Last year I paid a $100 towing bill to get winched out of a muddy corn field as the LTX's aren't worth s??t off road.

So I go into the tire store and end up with two MTR's (tread design looked too good to pass up). The 235's look puny but I was OK with it since I left the LTX's on the front.

Could my problem be that the LTX's have more of a shoulder on them than the MTR's? If I had MTR's all the way around might the tires flex the same and thereby no swaying? Sorry for the long explanation but I would really like to get this solved.
