4.8 swap or...

I have been laying the ground work to swap my 4.8 to a 6.0 but I was telling one of my customers about my plans and he asked why I wouldn't just go with a 5.3 and build it up. I was planning on doing ls2 upgrades to the 6 down the road anyways so if what I am reading is correct the only difference between a 4.8 and 5.3 is the crank. If this is the case why not take my fairly low mileage 4.8, pull it apart, install a 5.3 crank and use ls1 parts (heads, cam and possibly intake) and still create a motor putting out 400+ hp? Seems like it would be cheaper and more involved which I would have fun with. I'm not overly familiar with the newer gm engines so any help would be appreciated.

I suspect you need 5.3 rods or pistons too. The longer through 5.3 crank is going to push 4.8 pistons and rods up higher and probably hit the head.

Just a guess on my part.

The only difference is the cam,rods,crank.I would get the 6L,skip on the LS2 intake,Get the LS6.

I would really rather get the 6.0, a wise person said don't ask just do it...didn't listen and now I'm thinking about it way too much.
