I got a new Warn HS9500i and a chrome Warn Transformer for my 1995 K1500 yesterday from 4 Wheel Parts.  I got a good deal on it, and also got a FREE 1700lbs Warnworks utility winch.  They had both the winches in stock but they are shipping me the bushguard.  If anyone is in the market for a Warn winch now is a good time to get one.  They have also recently lowered there prices on all of their winches.   I got the 9500 for $780.  Be sure and check the prices on the internet first because they will try to up the prices on the parts when you go in the store (I think the work on commission).  I will get pics as soon as I get it all on.

That is a pretty good deal on the Warn.  The transformer is a pretty sweet setup.  Are you planning on bumping up the alternator or doing a dual battery setup?  The winch pulling a significant load will drain the battery pretty quickly.  I just sold my Warn XD9000i a couple of days ago.  Mine was on the multimount kit so I could put it on the front or rear.  I never did get it rigged for my '02.   :jester:

I'm not sure what I am gonna do yet, as far as "power upgrades".  I am going to put the thing on there first and see how the stock system handles it first.  A bigger alternator would be an easier install but I think that the dual battery setup would serve my purposes better (I often sit with lights, etc on and the truck not running).

I used it a couple of times when I had my '99 2wd stuck really bad.  Winch worked great, but nearly killed my battery especially when it was at the end of the 2nd wrap of the cable.  Definitely recommend upgrading the alternator.  Dual battery setup and alternator would even be better.  I equate using the winch to driving the truck with just the starter.

Get a snatchblock and your winch will "see" half the load and pull twice as much and lessen the drain rate to your battery.  I am waiting on the semi-hidden mount and have a 9500 sitting ready. I don't know if you would be interested, but Ramsey makes a wireless remote for the Warn's that still alllows you to use your hand held remote or use the wireless.

That winch will be the best investment you could make. No matter how much HP you have, no matter how big a lift you have, no matter how tall your tires, you will still get stuck.  And, with the winch you can reach places people with the other items can't.

How far does the remote reach?  That would be a neat feature.

As far as the winch being a good investment, I agree.  That is the first thing I put on my 4x4 ATV's.  People kill me spending all that money on tires, rims, and lift kits for their 4 wheelers and then call me with a stock-tired rancher (but with a 2500lb Warn :jester: ) to pull them out.

FYI.  There is a warning from Warn about the radio switch:

Dear All WARN ATV, Self-Recovery and Industrial Winch Owners:

It has come to our attention some customers are inquiring about the compatibility of using the currently available Radio/Wireless Remote Control Devices with a WARN Winch.

Here is what you need to know:

IMPORTANT PERFORMANCE NOTICE ABOUT THE

CURRENTLY AVAILABLE RADIO/WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL DEVICES

For WARN Self-Recovery winches, the currently available Radio/Wireless Remote Control devices clearly disable the WARN backup (redundant) winch switching control functions. This is because the Radio/Wireless Remote Control Devices utilizes three (3) control wires while the WARN remote switch utilizes five (5) control wires. The five (5) control wires are critical to proper function.

For all WARN winches (ATV, Self-recovery and Industrial), the currently available Radio/Wireless Remote Control Devices may lengthen the response time between the winch control functions of POWER IN and STOP, POWER OUT and STOP. Theese Radio/Wireless Remote Control Devices do not meet the WARN standards for operator control of any WARN winch product.

For over 50 years, WARN has been committed to providing dependable, reliable products you can trust. WARN strongly recommends that you DO NOT use the currently available Radio/Wireless Remote Control Devices with any WARN winch product.

If you have any questions, contact the Warn Industries Risk Manager at:

Of course, here is Ramsey's reply:

Response to Warn's question "Considering A Winch Radio Remote?"

To clarify the application of our wireless remote control when used with Warn winches please note the following:

what ATV Magazine, Dirt Wheels Magazine and

4 Wheel Drive & Sport Utility Magazine say

about the Ramsey Wireless Remote.

( Articles will open in a new window

with Adobe Acrobat. )

The Ramsey Remote Control is a three-wire device that operates the Warn winch. Warn changed to a five-wire device several years ago as a result of problems they were having with their control switch. The purpose of the five-wire device is to prevent unintentional operation of the winch by use of a backup (redundant) switching control function. When you are winching with the wireless remote, the Warn backup switching control function is NOT disabled. When you are finished winching, you disconnect the wireless remote plug from the winch, as noted in the operating instructions (same as Warn recommends for their remote control switch), so that the backup switching control function is NOT disabled. Either remote is intended to be connected only during operation of the winch.

Due to the high no-load speed of Warn winches, they "run-on" for several feet after you have signaled the winch to stop. The Ramsey remote can extend this "run-on", but tests have shown that the additional run-on distance is no more than an additional 9 % . For example, on a Warn HS9500 this added distance averages approximately 7 inches. Both Warn and Ramsey recommend a hook strap be used when spooling in cable under no load.

The innovative Ramsey Wireless Remote was designed to work with Ramsey, Warn, and Superwinch ATV and Self-Recovery winches only and is safe to use with all three manufacturer's winches when used according to the operating instructions.

Just a bit more info for you guys.  :thumb:

Hmmmm....seems to be no clear cut answer (yet) on whether it will work or not.  Oh well, I don't even have it mounted yet  :D .  My transformer has yet to come in  :(   It has made it to the distribution closest to my town, though

The guy who bought mine got the radio remote.  It will work fine.  Warn is concerned that some people might disable the redundant switch.  A couple of years ago, they had a problem with the White Rodgers solenoids.  The redundant switch was part of the fix. As long as nothing is cut out of the circuit, the radio remote should work fine.  I'll probably get one for my next winch.  Just never really liked the idea of tossing a muddy control cable across the hood of the truck. :thumb:

Well, I got it put on this weekend.  Looks really good...I hope to get some pics of it up soon.  We used it to pull some old fence posts and stuff up already.  I think that it will come in handy doing things around the farm, etc. :jester:

The solenoid problem was only with the ATV winch, the A2000  sold between November 1, 2000 to May 31, 2001.  So, not to worry on the 9500.
