Dynomax VT Exhaust System

I'm looking for a new exhaust system for my truck. I either want to weld on a new muffler or do a whole catback system. Dynomax is especially appealing to me. I like the no drone from the VT muffler, and their catback systems have a $75 rebate going right now. Does anyone run a system like this now? What do you think? I've seen people compare the stock system, on a scale of 1-10, as a 1.5. If stock is 1.5, then I'm looking for a 2.5-3 normally and maybe a 5 at most when you really step on it. With that being my goal, should I do the full system or just the muffler? I know if I do the muffler, I'll need someone to weld it on, but if I buy the system, do I need to weld, or just clamp it on with the clamps they give?

Also if y'all have some suggestions on other setups similar to this let me know.

Thanks for the help guys.

A few guys on here run the dynomax vt muffler and I know couple friends who have it and the spring inside that works the flange has broken, so now they have an open free flowing exhaust......And no more drone free exhaust.

That's the very reason I went with the UltraFlo Welded muffler instead. No springie; no drone.

I put the Dynomax 3" cat back system on my 2011 5.3. I got the ultraFlow muffler because I was thinking that the spring in the VT would eventuality break .I can tell you for sure wth AFM it does drones pretty good. I have had it on for about 3000 miles now and have learned to live with it. It does sound pretty good when you get on it, not super loud but just loud enough to know its there. Which is what I was looking for.You can notice a bit louder sound in the cab also.I also have an airaid jr. kit with the dry fillter on it. I put the jr.kit on before the exhaust and that changed the sound of the stock exhaust bit when you would jump on it.I think that you will get the drone with just about any system maybe not so much with the 1000$ ones.

My tailpipe now dumps right over the rear axle and the Dynomax system d o e s n o t drone when in 4-cylinder mode. Has to do with the length of tailpipe after the muffler.

So you do not get any drone with your tail pipe or you just can't hear it.Can you post a pix. of it? I would love to do away with that drone.

I had the ultraflo dynomax system on my truck and the drone was bad. I replaced the ultraflo with a VT muffler and the drone was reduced alot, not 100% but probably 95%. But after I installed long tube headers the drone came back and the exhaust was considerably louder. I put my stock cat-back exhaust back on and there's just a hint of drone. Most people that ride in the truck can't hear it when I point it out. You'll probably be good with the VT if you don't add headers.

No drone on my truck. Ask my wife. On second thought, forget about that.

One other thing: DO NOT go with one of those large diameter tailpipe tips. It will just act like a megaphone and amplify any noise problems you already have.

Thanks for the pix.BigBlue.I see now what you are talking about.Did you have that pipe made or can I order one form somewhere? How did you figure out that a short pipe would work?

That's the 3" Dynomax tailpipe shortened about 31". It was just a WAG that worked out!

If you're replacing only the muffler, just cut off your stock tailpipe.
