OGM-1 Intermittent XM issue: Need owner feedback please

I got a call from an OGM-1 owner yesterday regarding the intermittent XM issue that has affected some other owners here in the forum, and I suggested that since the problem had affected him multiple times this week, that he try and figure out a pattern to help diagnose the issue.

Well, I got a call this morning with information on what causes the issue (and verified on my own 2011 Tahoe LT/Bose), and I'd very much like those of you that have XM (and who may or may not have experienced the issue) to give this sequence a try to see if it affects your XM radio the same as it did ours:

  • Turn the key to "ACC", then turn off the key BEFORE you get to the splash screen while leaving the key in the ignition and the door closed - the radio will still power up because it's on the RAP (Retained Accessory Power) circuit, but you should have no data on XM and no audio. If you turn the key to the "IGN" position, it will not change.
  • Start the truck - the radio should reboot, and when it gets to the XM source, you should have data and audio as normal.

My guess here is that the XM tuner is either not powered on the RAP circuit, or that the OGM-1 is not sending data to tell it to turn on when on RAP.

So, for those of you that have had the XM data/audio problem: #1 - does it respond the same way for you when you follow these steps, and #2 - is it possible that this scenario was responsible for the times you lost XM data & audio?

I'd like to get a strong sample here of years and trim levels that either do or don't exhibit this issue, then I'll pass it along to the engineers to see if there's anything that they can do to mitigate it.

Alternatively, if this is what causes it and now it's not a mystery, it may make the "problem" pretty manageable...

mine seems to be coming more and more common...restarting the radio always seems to work....

unless my OGM1 completely glitches out, pops up an error message, and freezes...which will eventually restart itself and work okay.

will try this trick in the upcoming days....

Is your iPod plugged in when it glitches?

I've seen this a couple times, usually when the unit is starting up while trying to index a large library on the iPod and starting iGo at the same time...

My truck (2011 Silverado LT non-Bose) did this the other day. I wasn't tracking what I did key-cycle wise but this may be about what I did as I think I was trying to get into the hidden menu before taking off for dinner. I'll give it a shot this afternoon.

I'm the one that called you with this pattern. I tried it again today and it did the same thing so we are definitely on the right track with this. Have you got ahold of the people at advent to see what they say about it?

Yes, I leave my ipod plugged in 24/7 inside the glovebox....

I don't have iGo yet though...I don't feel like messing with backing up/updates/etc. I'd rather just get in the truck and drive it...although the nav it currently has is awful lol

I'm seeing issues with xm not working at all until i stop and restart the truck....it always works after restarting the truck but this happened three times over the last 4days. i don't get an error message there is just no info on the xm page but the radio and nav will work fine.

I've not reported it yet - I'd like to get more people to verify it works the same way in their vehicles, and whether this could be the cause of the issues we've already had reported.

I think I have the same problem with XM. Sometimes when I start the Traverse XM doesn't connect. If I turn the ignition off and restart the car, the XM works. I haven't tried the reset.

Did anyone notice a difference between the sound quality between xm with the factory radio and the ogm1? It seems like xm doesn't sound as good as the factory but the radio and iPod sound much better on the ogm1 vs the factory. It also seems as though the music volume reduces as you go faster instead of increasing.

Walt. I have talked to you about this issue on my truck. 07 Silverado with Bose. I haven't figured out any pattern that it follows. It just does it randomly. Usually turning off the truck and turning it back on fixs the problem.

Walt, I have had this problem intermittantly and either a restart of the truck (2011 Silverado Bose) or a reboot of the deck from the settings menu. The truck is a diesel so depending on the temp I have to wait to start with the key in the run postion. I was guessing it was the partial boot up waiting for glow plugs. But it doesn't happen very often. Also, no iphone / ipod atatched.

Mine will lose XM from time to time. Turning the truck off, opening the door, closing door, restarting truck and XM will come on and play perfectly for awhile.

another item, I have noticed that the radio volume will lower when I put the truck in reverse and go back up when it is put into drive... Anybody else have this happen?
