What headers are folks running??

Hi, I'm running this post in the Light Duty forum too, but haven't gotten any responses.  So, I thougth I'd post here too.

I'm looking to install a set of headers on my '02 Silverado 5.3.  I see that Gibson has a set of tube headers, but I'm really interested in a set of tri y headers.

Any idea who makes tri y's for the 5.3?  I've been browsing the web, but can't find anything.

Also, what have been the experiences people have had with their headers...positive, negative...?

Thanks

There are a wide variety of headers that you can get for the 5.3L - TOG's [The Other Guys], Gibsons and JBA's - you will get better performance gains from reasonably long headers like the TOGS IMHO.

ASm's have an excellent reputation, I might have considered them, but they didn't have anything that would work with the 8.1L at the time.

I am very pleased with my TOG's and know that they have improved the engine performance.

If you want Tri-Y headers Doug Thorley is the innovators of the design. You can find him here:

Banks also makes a tri-y design as well for the big blocks. I am not sure if their 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0L headers are of that design or not. However you can find them here:

They make complete systems from the headers on back to the exhaust tip, great quality and life time warranty.

Thanks for the tips.  I checked out Thorley headers but they don't make any headers for my engine or year.  I haven't checked on Banks yet, but am not hopeful.  Tri-y's are just not in style anymore even though they are best for low end torque on street applications.  When I save up the $ I'll probably go with a set of TOG headers.  They seem to have a good reputation.  Thanks again.

Not much, very little sound difference. Your exhaust is what really gives your sound. Pulling out the Cats will however give you a much deeper noticable tone.

I have JBA ceramic shorties on my 03 Tahoe and love them. I have them running into an Edelbrock exhaust, teamed up with an AEM Brute Force intake. Over all a very good system.

If you have the rest of the stream tuned [FIPK, exhaust] you will benefit greatly from headers, the longer the better - I noticed a substantial improvement from my TOG's.

The only problem with the long tube headers is the price. Its outragous!!!!! and not very many people make em. Does anyone know where I could look for a good price on Tog headers? thanks

I have the Doug Thorley long tubes on my 454 Suburban and I love them.  I don't remember them being that expensive and they helped in mileage and performance (SOTP).
