Body tethers again

About 2 years ago I had a squeak underneath my 2010 regular cab work truck. I was sure it was the rubber donut body mounts but it turned out to be some cables that attach the cab to the frame. The dealer told me they were body tethers and showed my a factory TSB.

So last week I went to the dealer again for a squeak underneath the truck that I was sure was coming from the rear springs. In fact I was basically ready to jack up the truck and spread some grease between the leaves I was so sure. Anyway they had to order some cables and I thought possibly it was the parking brake cable. Wrong again - it was those stupid body tethers. The old TSB told them to grease up the ends. I guess now they replace them with a different design.

Here are some pictures. The first ones are the new body tether cables.

And this is the original tether picture I took 2 years ago.

If your regular cab truck is squeaking underneath you probably ought to check these things. It made a huge improvement in mine. I don't understand exactly why they're there. I guess if you have a wreck it keeps the body attached to the frame. And I don't know if the extended cab or crew cab trucks have them or why they don't need them if they don't.
