GM Accessory fog light wiring problem

Recommended Posts

So I bought the gm fog lamp kit for my 2007.5 2500hd 6.0. When it came to the wiring the directions something isn't correct. They state to plug the wire into the B5 slot on the X1 connector on the underhood junction block. I did this and the fog lamps did not work. In the B5 slot I had a large purple wire that I believe was for the rear defogger. B1 was empty as well as B2, 3, and 4. I swapped it over to the B1 and that didn't work. Has anyone installed these on a 07.5 and had problems? The switch works, I get the fog light symbol on the speedo and I hear a clicking coming from the junction block when I turn the switch on.

plug x1,,b5 is the purple wire[you should have wiring from fuse block to front lower core support, the dash is pre=wired[, did you ck the harness on the core support ,do you have plugs already?[you need to pull the bumper and probabuly the head-lights],and if not did you run a ground?

Bringing this back since the lights are still not hooked up. The kit came with the harness and everything is hooked up minus the power wire into the junction block. The front bumper and grill all came off as per the instructions. It has been awhile but I think that fuse is even marked as the defroster.

Hey ShiekSS - did you get this sorted out? I installed the factory accessory foglamps in my 2013 Sierra 2500 and am having the exact same problem. The speedo icon comes on and I can hear the relay clicking but the lights don't come on. I checked the bulbs (good) and checked for voltage on the harness at the lamps (none)... Fuses are OK.

I was thinking I was going to have to go the dealer to see what's up.

Did you find anything out??

Thanks!

There is only 2 reasons its not working 1: you didn't put the purple wire in the right spot. 2: you don't have a good ground.

Thanks for the reply. The ground went to the spot on the frame where they wanted, behind the body mount- there were two other ground wires already there and the truck is literally brand new so there is no corrosion whatsoever (I'll meter it but I'm pretty sure its a good ground). As far as where to park wire 2234, like the other guy said, there was only one option- there was already a wire in the other terminal at the other end (with the two prongs on the plug you can at least tell which end of the block connector they want you to use). Its either B1 or B5, and what I believe to be B1 already has a wire installed.

Did you have this issue when you installed your kit?

Spent some time out in the driveway this morning. The ground is good- I metered it. I also checked and doublechecked where I have the lead plugged into on x1. For sh*ts and giggles I even changed it over to B5 (the other purple wire) which didn't work. I put the foglamp purple lead directly over to the positive terminal on the battery and the lights worked. The foglamp relay clicks when you switch them on and off and the foglamp indicator comes on in the instrument cluster. I wonder if something needs to be programmed in the truck to enable them. What a pain in the butt. I'm half tempted to just wire a separate switch in the dash and then I can run them whenever I want but I went with the factory kit so it would look factory.

that purple wire was a bastard to figure out I used this forum used to be an excellent thread with arrows and everything, got deleted though. As I said above I didn't need programming I got a base model w/t

Good luck

Got it. Took the truck to the dealer and one of the techs and I messed with it. Took about an hour to figure out I had the purple wire going to X4 instead of X1 because we were looking at the schematic wrong. I thought it viewed the junction block bracket from the top looking down, not the junction block bracket removed, looking at it up. We started going through all the block connectors through the tech II program, looking at the wiring and matching colors and realized it was on the wrong connector. I would have felt like a dumbass if he figured it out in 5 minutes but he says he gets stuck in situations like that all the time with the piss-poor GM documentation he gets. At least my splash guards went on without any problems (hated drilling holes in a new truck though)!

Thanks.

Yeah that view is from the bottom up, stupidest diagram ever really pissed me off. I couldnt figure it out luckily someone on here had a photoshopped picture of the block. Like I said got deleted a while back.

Sucks you had to pay a dealer oh well it works and that's what is important
