2011- up 6.0 Mileage

Just looking to hear from other new L96 owners what they are getting for mileage. I have 8K on my truck now and have figured it out twice, once at 3K hand calculated 14.8 and again at 7K hand calculated 17.2 . My buddy's '11 LML highest hand calculated is 17.8 so far. I know a guy with an '05 six point ohh and his highest mileage he ever recorded is 15.2. I let him drive my truck and he said the difference in power is night and day, they don't even sound the same. I don't know I've never driven the 6 Liter before mine. It's nice to see the manufacturers finally doing some R&D on these gas motors they are so much better than even 5 years ago!

Over 12 fill-ups, I have averaged 13.0 mpg. Best was 14.24, worst was 9.27. I would say my truck has probably seen 50% or less highway, and a good chunk was hauling full loads of wood, pressure treated decking, concrete, etc.

Wow, brantjs, I know we live in different places but it really shows what happens when weight is added. I only drive maybe 40% highway, and only 20% with the box full, and my trailers are light. Still I worry about the gas in that huge tank going bad- takes me about a month to burn through it.

I don't know anybody with a 6.0 2500 that ever got over 15 reliably. They are what they are.

Yep, that's what I say- it is what it is! These newer ones make more power and are probably more efficient with VVT but I think they are built much heavier to handle the mighty duramax. So with the gas in this truck should prove to be very durable over time - hopefully right?

Back in 2009 here on GMT, we started a bunch of "clubs" for people with various colored trucks. It was mostly a tongue in cheek thing where we declared out trucks to be better than everybody else's simply because of their color. It was just for fun.

 

We should resurrect them!

Highway I get high 15's. Around town, mostly city, up and down hills 9.4. And the saying goes - they are what they are.

Empty around town back and fro to work I get 17 mpg. On the highway loaded with two quads or two sleds on a deck it averages 15 mpg. With the load on the highway the mileage is actually better by running in M-5th gear and not putting it in D. Avoids wanting to go into OD and the engine just more or less idles at 2400rpm doing 70mph.

Poleman you are seeing more of what I am seeing for mileage. I just figured out the M-5 thing myself- even on smaller , lower speed roads I find the trans shifts better.

About a year ago I took a 2,000 mile road trip and the first half was unloaded. I think I averaged 16 unloaded and 11 loaded (towing a ~9,200 lb boat).

 

I did a big write up on the trip but it's buried about a year back.

I recently drove 1574 miles across interstate 40,averaging 70-75 mph's.Total gallons of fuel used 85 gallons.This added up to an average of 18.5 mpg.This truck ran fault-less,it was a real pleasure to drive it.Highway had a few hills.Transmission worked outstanding during decent's it kept it's gear and allowed the engine to rev down and coast the hills down.It somewhat acts like hill-assist like on the diesel version of this just a little less pronounced.Had about 400 lbs in the bed.My 2011 Chevrolet Silverado has been maintence free,oils,tire rotation.A really nice truck,this is my fourth Chevrolet truck I have own in my lifetime.It is a real pleasure to own this truck,very pleased with it.
