I got an 06 silverado and im having a hard time figuring a few things out. Not huge a deal but annoying.

My dome light doesnt come on when i unlock the door with the controller and it doesnt turn on when i open any of the doors. Works if i manually turn it on but thats it. Am i missing something? My 04 turns on when i do both lock and unlock and open the door. Help would be appreciated!

Also when i go to lock the doors and hit the button twice on the controller like im setting the alarm, it doesnt honk like normal. Its still stock alarm wise. It does have an aftermarket stereo in it. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. I know when i start the truck without my seatbelt on it dings so loud it almost blows my eardrums. Somebody did something weird. Anyways... thanks for the help ahead of time!

Can't answer your light or horn questions (other than, if you have a DIC in your truck, some of these features may be programmable), but I can help you with the chimes being too loud. GM used the stereo and speakers for their warning chimes. If you change the head unit of the stereo, you will lose the chimes. There are adapters that can be installed with an aftermarket stereo, that will give you the chimes back, but they are not run thru the stereo, the sound comes out of the speaker on the adapter, which is usually installed under the dash somewhere.

There have been a number of comments on various boards about how loud the adapter is. Some of them have a jumper that can be cut to reduce the volume, but most people I have read simply wrap the adapter in electrical tape to muffle the sound.

Check your owners manual. Pretty sure there is a dome override button by the headlight switch that is used to turn dome light on and off when door is opened. The horn blowing when locking the doors is a programming issue that can be turned on or off by a procedure explained in the owners manual also.

The Chimes are coming through the speakers! And its mind blowing loud. So i dont think there is an adapter at all or speaker inside installed that is controlling the chimes.

if the stock head unit has been replaced you shouldn't have chimes unless there's a new adapter harness that sends it through the radio instead of the conventional adapter speaker method. I personally have the later and just unplugged the speaker entirely. Thinking about it now I probably should have grounded out both wires but it's working fine as is so I'll leave it. With that said I would seriously consider pulling the head unit out and checking to see how it's wired you can buy aforementioned harness adapter w/ the removable speaker for like $80 from Metra or Scosche. Go with the Metra if you do decide to replace it.
