Sad day for me.  Growing up I idolized him.  Went to so many cubs games when i was younger and he was my fave player.  He wasnt the greatest but he was a very good player.  

 

Murray, Carter get good news

Eddie Murray, the only switch-hitter with 500 home runs and 3,000 hits, was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility on Tuesday. Catcher Gary Carter finally made it on his sixth try. No one else came close in voting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Carry-over candidates Bruce Sutter, Jim Rice and Andre Dawson were around 50 percent, and first-timers Ryne Sandberg and Lee Smith didn't even reach that mark.

Sandberg started his career in the Phillies organization. He played single A ball for the Spartanburg Phillies. The ballpark was a few miles from my house so I got to see most of the games the summer he was here. He was awesome then, and went on to become the best second baseman I ever saw.

 

The Spartanburg Phillies were later bought by Dale Earnhardt and moved to Kannapolis NC and renamed the Kannapolis Intimidators,

In my opinion he was the greatest player baeball has ever seen. Probably will never be another one like him.

heck yea pete rose should be in the hall.  My grandpa got to meet him about a yr ago at some dinner.  Got his pic taken with him.  He said he is the nicest guy in the world
