I'll be looking to get the wife a Tahoe in the next year or less. Maybe a Suburban depending on the deal. We'd both rather have a Tahoe, but I think Subs are a little cheaper right now. It will definitely be a used model from a dealer, though.

Anyone else out there looking to buy?

I'm looking into nothing newer than a '90.

I want a full size 4x4, V8. I'm fighting myslf ether or not to get one that's already been Jacked up, or get a Stock one and Jack it up myself. If I do get a stock one I'll probably see if I can take it somewhere and have it jacked up, I don't really want to fool with it because I'm afraid I'll forget something major and have iot come apart when I'm on the go.

IMO, 4x4's are the most risky used buy out there. It is really hard to tell how a truck's been treated. I had a friend ask me to look at an early 90's model Ford F-150 for him. He was thinking about buying it and the guy let him drive it home for a day (this was in rural Maine, I'm sure Mervz and Sillt can relate).

I looked around and man this thing was sweet! Straight body, tracked straight on the road, everything was nice. Then I drove it. I said, "This front end is really stiff." Marty told me that the seller had put heavier springs up front. So I decided to look some more. I found a busted bolt on the dash mount(how hard do you have to hit to bust a dashboard bolt?) and some stress wrinkles on the firewall.

He didn't buy it.

Okay, I know that was long, but the moral of the story is that 4x4's can be risky used car purchases so be real careful.

I've been looking for several months now for the truck I want to replace the S-10 Blazer listed below.  I may be too picky, but I figure with the amount of money I'm spending I'll get what I want.  Since it is will be my only vehicle I am not going to get a plain jane, it must have some decent creature comforts.

I am not looking to buy anything for atleast two years.  Once I get out of college I will be able to buy what I really want, so I will just wait until then.

Do yourself a favor and get a stock one.  That way you won't be spending time fixing the previous guys mistakes.  You can also go where you want to instead of living with the height it came with.

I agree with Jpshostr, get a stock (or fairly stock) one.  That way you can fix it up the way YOU want it, not the way someone else wanted it.  Unless you find something that you really, really like.  To me, and I'm sure others might agree, customizing and stuff like that is half the fun.  It can be kinda agrevating sometimes too though when your trying to make a decision on some accessories.  I went through 6 different kinds of mud flaps before I found some I liked.  A couple of them didn't fit just right, so they were no big deal.  My wife and friends seem to get a big laugh about picky I am about how things fit or look on my truck.  Oh well, I have fun doing it.

Just got rid of one...a nice '99 GMC SLE X-cab, fully loaded.  Couldn't justify the payment when I really needed another hot-rod toy...hence the '76 454.

I am looking at getting a new truck in the next six months or so. I would really like to get a Duramax but want to build a new house when I retire in two years from the Navy. I have priced out a 01 Stepside Z71 reg cab, 5.3, & 3.73 and it is 7 grand less then a HD, reg cab, 4X4 with the D/A so I am considering buying a new stepside. I figure milage will be about the same so unless diesel fuel gets to be .40 cents a gallon cheaper then gas then it will never pay for itself, when you consider extra maintance cost and interest on the loan. I am in no hurry because I am ordering next truck no matter what I finally decide. I am considering all  factors in my decision. I am also open to ideas from the forum.
