Thinking about whats next for my 1500hd

I put some Kumho Road Venture 285/75/16 on stock rims last year. I was thinking about selling my truck or trading it in but I don't owe that much on it. So now I'm thinking if I keep it I wouldn't mind putting a small lift on it so I can put some aftermarket rims on it and maybe one size bigger tire. I want the tires to stick outside the fenders just a little bit. If I put on a leveling kit, which one do I want and are they hard to put on? If I do this I will probably want some type of step bar. Also, if I already have 285s what is the max tire size with an aftermarket rim that will make the tires stick outside fender a little.
