Speedometer issue with 2005 Yukon Denali XL

So my wife leaves tonight to take our boys to basketball practice and calls me to tell me the speedometer is stuck at 105mph. She already had pulled over to shut it off and restart (a good try) but it didn't help. Whether it's on, off, moving or not, it's stuck at 105mph.

Is there something for me to trouble shoot or is it a bad motor behind the cluster? Thanks for any help or insight.

Bad stepper motor in the cluster. Warranty on them was extended to 7 years/70k. Might be beneficial that if you replace one just replace all.

I have had it happen twice. 2 different clusters. The original in my 04, and then the 05 2500 HD cluster that is in my truck now

Tell her not to drive so fast anymore...lol

I agree with Chris, stepper motors in dash cluster possible bad.

LOL... That's what I said. Stop doing 105mph.... I told her she broke it.

Thankyou both for the info.

Unfortunately she has just over 100K miles on it. I said maybe time to trade it out, but she said no. She really loves her truck. I guess I'll have to research on how hard of a job it is to replace the stepper motors...

Thanks Chris, Mark and txab. I pulled the cluster yesterday and decided to send it off to Carl at dallasclusterrepair (txab thanks for that link). I'll post up when I get it back and have it installed. I contemplated doing it myself, but it wasn't much more to have Carl do it and since I opted for the full rebuild labor and parts are guaranteed for as long as we own the truck.

Well got the cluster back from dallasclusterrepair and it's working great. I would use those guys again. They were quick to respond to my emails and their turnaround time is great. I shipped it out the 17th and had it back and installed on the 24th.

I hope it isn't bad form to tag onto anothers thread. If so, please advise and I will start a new one.

My dash cluster and DIC has stopped working on my 04 Yukon XL. I've seen the recall info, I'm out of that by about 60K. The entire cluster all failed at once, came on sporadically at first, but since then the only change came after I changed the 10amp fuse out under the hood, when all but the speedo, tach and dic came back. It went dead again after I pulled the fuse again, nothing ever since. I also tried dc the battery cable with no change. The only lights I get are turn signals and the check engine light at start up. I have a hard time believing all of the guages would fail at one time and believe there must be an electrical sending unit involved in failure.

Any one have any better tricks up their sleeve? I'm not eager to drive around with a hole in my dash for a week.

If I were you, I'd contact dallasclusterrepair. They are quick and not expensive in my opinion. They will rebuild the enitire cluster (motors, lights and power supply) and guarantee it for as long as you own the truck. Since they fix them, if you explain what's going on, maybe they can let you know if they in fact believe it to be the cluster and not something else.
