I had a similar problem except I was going 45 down a major street in Phoenix and I lost all power including brakes and steering.  I had to make emergency repairs in the center lane/media during rush hour.  It ended up being my battery connection and not my batter.  Be sure to check that.  Also, be sure to check that there is not a lot of acid coming out of the battery.  If there is, be sure to clean it.  I know that places like Checkers/Schucks/Kragen will check your battery for you for free so take advantage of that.  Hope it helps.

My '00 Silverado did that once while I was turning a corner (luckily no-one was coming the other way).  The truck only had a couple thousand miles on it, so I went to the dealer raising "holy he11".  The dealer was familiar with the problem and uploaded some stuff into the computer.  I was still mad and told him that if it is a safety issue and you know about it, then you better let me know I need to get it fixed...

I still don't know what caused it... but it was tough getting my truck back into my lane and getting it stopped so I could restart it!!!

I had this problem a few times going slow aroudn turns on my 00 Yukon when it had about 35K miles on it.  It turned out to be that the throttle plate was sticking and it would just cut the engine off.  I just sprayed some throttle body cleaner on a rag and cleaned the throttle body around the plate, and I haven't had the problem since.

If it's not something with your battery or batt. connection, try this fix.
