White Wheel wells?

Is it just me or does anyone else hate the way GMC leaves the rear wheels on the 2000 Sierra "unfinshed"? No liners, white paint (at least on mine).  Kinda glare out at you from the side.  Anyone painted them black? What did you use, regular paint? Couldnt you use the stuff for the paint/spray-on bedliners for a little more protection?  Also there is a little crescent area in the front well that needs it to......maybe I am being to picky....

I would personally get the bedliner stuff sprayed on them.  It will last alot longer then paint, which will prevent rusting in the long run.  Besides, I like my wheel wells to be black.

You can buy rubberized undercoating in a spray can from Walmart.  It should work well, and it is easy to touch-up if you need too...

Tom:

What did you use? Did you spray or brush?

I don't remember the brand, but it was a spray on that i bought at Auto Zone.  It dried a little harder than I wanted, so I'm going to get some that is a little more "rubbery" and put on top of that.  I've found that the kind that dries hard, seems to chip and crack a little easier.

Hope this helps.

Try 3M rubberized undercoating in the spray can.  It's more expensive than the cheapy brands, but should last alot longer and has a good black color.  Some cheap brands are more brown than black.  Clean the areas to be sprayed with a scotch-brite pad and soapy water, rinse well and allow to dry.  You want to lightly scuff the paint with the scotch brite as you clean, this gives a good anchor profile for the undercoating to stick to.  While the areas are drying, mask off the truck around the wheel wells to avoid any overspray.  When the areas are dry, spray the undercoating per the directions.  I use at least two coats, it'll probably take at least 2 cans.  The more you use, the better the sound deadening and chip protection.  Did this on my Corvette and Suburban.

Heh, I love all these idea's, I've used tom's tinfoil idea for my engine compartments (89 Z71, and the 79 big buick)  Now I was going to repaint my wheel wells, now as I rust proof the underside of my Z i'll use the rubberized paint now too!

Keep the good idea's coming!

BTW never use dish soap to wash a car with, eats away wax real quickly.  (thought i should add something.
