Starting this thread to see what members are running the 6.8 platform.

I have been running 6.8 for over 3 years and it is my go to caliber now - hunting, shooting for fun, home defense - 6.8 is the way to go.

Here is a quick pic I snapped yesterday afternoon - sitting on the hood of my truck no less..

I was curious why you had 10 rd mags

It's because the 25 or 30 round mags wont sit in a vise or work well when hunting or shooting from a rest. They bottom out and wont allow for a precise, stable rest.

For the 6.8 - I have 10 round, 15, 17, and 25 round - all metal mags. The Magpul PMAGS will not consistently run 6.8 well - however I have tested and have been able to fire 10 from a 30 round mag but the 11th round would not feed.

Is that a complete Spike's rifle, upper, lower, and barrel?

Yes, in the last picture that is. Almost every component on the rifle is from Spike's Tactical in Apopka, FL.

The barrel is a 14.5" CHF FN, Muzzle Device is a Spike's Dynacomp, Spikes BCG and Bolt, Spikes Upper Receiver, Spikes Lower receiver, Spikes Buffer Tube Kit.

I order my components from them or other distributors and build my rifles.

The 6.8 is a Mega Upper, Spikes Lower, Bison 18" SPR profile 6.8 SPCII barrel, VLTOR Muzzle Device.

I've been looking real hard at the LWRC Six8, although it is a dedicated 6.8. But they are still up there in price right now.

LWRC has always and will always be expensive. Their 6.8SPC was specifically designed around that specific round. Since Colt aquired LWRC a little while back, don't expect to see prices fall anytime in tge near future. Might as well buy now while you can. Seeing Colt is not really into gas piston systems, this rifle may not be around long.

Yeah, the whole it was designed specifically for this gun, from the round to the mag up, is the reason I was leaning that way. It is on my short list though.

Not sure what you mean by "the whole was designed for this gun", maybe you misunderstood what I was saying or what LWRC actually did with the redesign...........LWRC was not the first firearms manufacturer to introduce nor chamber a 6.8SPC round, it's actually been around for quite some time now. If memory serves me correctly, it has been around since at least 2005.

It's been quite a while since I read the design and partnership articles on this A5 rifle but I will try to explain what I remember from the press releases.....

LWRC partnered with Magpul to design a functioning magazine with proper feed angle, and proper size to fit the 6.8 cartridge. They made the first actual reliable Polymer magazine when designing the A5. LWRC and Magpul also partnered with "ATK" for ammunition design on the A5 project.

The upper and lower were both redesigned.

The lower was made with a larger magazine well based off the specs of the newly designed Pmag. The upper was given a new, properly reamed chamber. The ejection port was tapered and size changed changed to allow clearance of the larger empty case without hitting the sides of the standard 5.56 ejection port. They also adjusted the angle of the case deflector to go along with the new angle the case came out of the ejection port.

There were issues with erratic ejection with other manufacturers using the standard 5.56 ejection port because it is actually a little too tight/small for the 6.8 case. They also did something with the ejector to allow it better function but I don't remember what exactly was done with it.

If I missed anything and somebody 'in the know' has more information, please post it.

That's what I was getting at, in much fewer words. :D From my initial readings about the 6.8 in an AR-15 platform, and feed angles. So, they started with the round and reverse made the gun, and allowing for a longer COAL. That's what drew me in about it. As for the price, I agree. It's a lot to come by, but the reviews are great on it so far. Anything from pig, to deer and small game, home defense, and expensive "plinker". Some are getting near the 2k mark, haven't checked in awhile. So there is some hope. I keep snooping on the 68forum and LWRC's forum for more info and reviews.

I rebarreled a Remington R-15 with a bison armory 6.8. No issues with PRI mags. None. Quality mags, a quality barrel, and you shouldn't have any problem with the 6.8 in the standard AR upper or lower. Accuracy is supreme to 300.

Just getting back around to this thread.

The LWRC lower is the primary difference for the LWRC Six8. They were selling the Six8 lower so folks could use 6.8 polymer PMAGS with the 6.8.

I didn't bite on one of these due to the price and the fact that currently I like to keep my mag length short when bench shooting or from a house stand. The longer mags (including PMAGS over 10 rounds) will bottom out on the stand and on the bench.

I much prefer a billet matched set or just a standard forged receiver set when building my rifles. Oh and those Bison barrels are some of the best you can get for the 6.8.
