Well my truck got a new scar today

grrrr

went to blockbuster to rent the dvd hannibal.  Leaving this guy is cutting grass (huge lawnmower) next thing you know i hear a boom (like a brick hit my truck) rock flew out from under it.  My heart sunk i got out and ill be ****ed i have 3 knicks on my lower drivers side door.  Paint completely gone.  NO DENT however.  from the noise it made i was sure it would dent.

Got home put some touchup paint on.  Looks like crap upclose ,3 bloches.  Far away cannot tell (before you could see 3 white spots)

My question any way to smooth out the touchup  paint spots? Clay bar?

It could be worse i guess i kinda lucked out but still i am pretty pissed

the dvd of hannibal was better than the movies.  Alternative endings and scenes were dumb

Thanks

Oh man, that sucks. Sorry!!! I don't think that claybar is the answer. Ask a body shop guy.

I wanted to go kick his @$$ let me tell you.  (he didnt speak english i am sure of it)

But then i thought its not his fault really (**** i didnt think i could be level headed).  I mean he didnt know there was a rock there.  I chalk it up to a bad accident.  Also my gf being in my truck (the noise scared the heck out of her) also calmed me down.

Ryan,

Sorry to hear that, what a bum deal!  I always cringe when I go by these guys in the commercial type mowers, half of them don't have a shroud deflector on the grass shoot and crap is always flying out of them.

Never seems to fail, I'll be at a red light and some guy will be mowing the two or three strips of grass at the gas station on the corner and all kinds of garbage is flying out of there.

Funny, I actually did this myself once, probably why I'm so sensitive to the issu, had just picked up a new company car and had it sitting in the driveway,  decided to mow the lawn with the lawn tractor and about 5 minutes into the job I hear a huge BANG!!  WTF?  I look over and the whole passenger side window is shattered!  The car was 2 days old!  When the guy came to replace the glass he chuckled and said "at least you don't have to scrape the sticker off  now"  hehe.  That was the only funny thing about it.  All vehicles go in the pole barn when the tractor is running from then on!

Regards,

BIG BLUE

Pretty much the best thing to do is make sure you put the paint on as smooth as you can to start with.  We are always putting touchup on our trucks, they are always getting character marks from things.  Don't lose too much sleep over it, its not a big deal.

If you had caught him at the time, you might have been able to get his company's insurance to repaint the door.  It would have been good to have your g/f as a witness.  I assure you that whether he could speak English or not, he would have played dumb and acted like he couldn't.  But the company's phone numbers are usually on the door of the pickups.  They (the lawn co.) are responsible for anything they send flying through the air.

I'd start with their insurance as the above statement.

Otherwise, if your really really careful, get a little file or sand paper, and grind down the little blot.  Take a match, the tear-off kind, and blot it in paint and repaint.

We've got terribly thin paint on our silverado, and it works for us fine, if you find a little paint ding on it, I'd be surprised.  The hood seems to be the worst.

its not that bad and i already put touch up paint on it.  Im gonna leave it at that for now (its located right under the trim on the drivers door)
