can you or are you suppose to get the album art when listening to itunes via bluetooth or do you have to have the device plugged in?

I have discovered that with my iphone 5, the album art when I playing music using spotify or from my library is not displayed via bluetooth. The phone must be connected using the USB cord to see the album art.
