looking for some wiring help ASAP!

hey all, i started my LED under the rail lighting project on my pickup this afternoon. I ordered the Plasma glow LED kit thats "cut to fit" however when i opened the kit there werent any instructions. Just a vague paper telling me what was included. Well The problem i ran into was that the wires were a long string with a male end on one end and a female on the other end. Therefore I cut the string in half and ran one half on one side of the bed, the other on the opposite side. I decided to run the grounds to the switch and then run them down and use the ground from the trailer wiring. Then i ran the powers together and tapped into a 12v source in the trailer connection as well. However i cant get them to light up so im looking for a little advice. Is this a ok place to grab my power and ground from? and also im confused on the fact that the lights are "cut to fit" therefore only one end of the lights are wired in, the other end isnt wired to anything. Should i run a pair of wires across the back and wire the two strings together to make a loop in essence?

LED lights are polarity sensitive. Reverse the polarity and see if you get any results. You won't damage them as they only allow electricity to flow one direction.

 

Also try all lights if you havent already, turn signals break and park lights.

 

Polarity is the orientation of the +positive -negative.

Also, do you have power on the 12v constant at the trailer plug? Most 1500's you need to attach the wire to the stud under the hood, and add a fuse. If I remember right, E-trailer has a video explaining this.

 

As mentioned, keep positive to positive, neg to neg. It won/t matter if you run the wires from the pass side over to the drivers, or drop both wires down on each side, then connect them together.

 

Most LED strips do not have wires at each end. I know the LED's I bought for my snowmobile trailer didn't, just soldered wire up as needed.

In this video, they do not show the 12v constant being hooked up, but fits on the 2nd stud under the hood. Hope it helps! The brake controller and 12v wire have 2 different size ring terminals.
