Aftermarket Fuel Tank on HD

Has anyone installed a larger capacity fuel tank on a gas HD. Transfer Flow has a 45 gal. replacement tank for $830. Pulling my V-nose enclosed snowmobile trailer at 80 mph I can deal with the 8.5-9 MPG, but the 205 miles on that 26 gal. stock tank is killing me. I hate being the one that has to slow down the 3 truck train for gas stops all the time. $800-1000 is a bit steep but I got to do something. Anybody else making tanks for HD's. Don't need a 50 gal bed tank but 20 Gal. sure would help. Thanks

You could also look into the tanks from tourbuddy.com.  They mount in the bed, but in the space that isn't used in front and in back of your wheel tubs.  It basically makes the inside of your bed square, like a stepside bed would.  They are covered with diamond plate, have an easily servicable fuel filter, and no electronics or moving parts to replace.  They don't interfere with most tonneau covers.  Your gas gauge will still be accurate for the main tank.  It is really a simple and effective system.  The aux tanks drain into the main tank only when there is air in the main tank.  Your gauge will read Full until you have emptied the aux tanks and used some fuel from the main tank.  You can add from one to four tanks, each holding about 11 gallons.  With all four installed and filled, you'll have 70 gallons of fuel onboard!

IIRC, they cost about $250-$300 each, or about $1100 for a set of four.  I'm probably going to order a set this summer.

THE BIGPUNN- I have the 6.0 engine. Great truck, plenty of power.

meganuke- I talked with tourbuddy, they only recommed their tank for diesel trucks, because the expansion rate of gas is much greater than diesel fuel in the sun or under a cap or tonneau cover. He said it will mess up way the system vents and siphons. It may work ok in michigan winters, I would like something year round. Looks like Transfer Flow is the way to go. All their tanks meet federal, state, and local regulations. 3 year warranty, but not cheap.
