Alpine Dash Kit

I'm considering an Alpine touch screen head unit to install in the dash of the 08 Silverado I am picking up Saturday. On Alpine's website the offer a dash kit that is $400 for the truck. The Metra one is like $20. So what does the Alpine one do that Metra doesn't? I mean at that price does it like, cure cancer?

Since the Alpine has a non-standard face and is too deep for the dash, their kit accommodates the extra depth and contour of their radio.

Is there that much of a difference in look? Crutchfield shows just the Metra kit, but obviously no final install photos.

It is a little taller with different contours since the nose of the deck has to come out farther than the heater controls underneath it. The cost includes the harness and steering wheel controls, but at $400, it's about $250-300 overpriced, IMO.
