Shift KIt?

I've been considering getting a shift kit for my transmission.  Will a shift kit actually lengthen the life of my transmission.  Also has anyone had a shift kit cause their transmission to fail.  I only want the kit if its going to help my transmission.

Thanks In Advance!!

P.S. I am running a 5.3 with a 4L60E in an 02 silverado 1500

I am running a JET shift kit in the 4L60 in my ZR2 and I'm planning to use the Transgo kit in my Sierra.  Regarding your question, because the shifts are faster there is less heat created during the shift.  Presumably, this translates to a longer life.  That's what I'm counting on, anyway!

talk to any tranny shop and theyll agree, the faster the tranny shifts, the less slippage occurs and the less heat that is created=longer tranny life(hoping you have the tranny fluid flushed every 30,000miles)

And one last question,  how much $$$ should I expect to have a shift kit installed.  I would probably go with the trans-go shift kit.

Thanks for the info!

Install it yourself.  All you need is basic hand tools, rachet set, flat screwdriver, drill and snap ring pliers.  Transgo provides an excellent installation video to compliment the instruction sheets.  Took my wife and I a weekend working really slow (wife had to make sure I wasn’t screwing up!).  I bought my kit from Transmission Exchange for $120 shipped. :thumb:

the B&M instructions are inaccurate and incomplete.  I wouldn't recommend doing one of their kit's yourself.  dunno about Transgo, but the people I've talked to about rebuilding transmissions haven't said kind things about shift kits, unless you've got a sturdy tranny to begin with.

The Transgo is a heck of a great kit, should have put it on at 500 miles instead of waiting - shifts VERY firm, well made and not to expensive - and it will extend the life of an abused tranny

I should have my kit tomorrow, hopefully installed by the end of the weekend.  After talking with several shops as to what level of firmness, all of shops said get something in the middle.....not too long, but not extremely fast like the HD kit.  I ended going with the transgo SK series kit.  Will report back when completed.

My understanding is reduce the heat and it will extend the life of the tranny several times over. So the use of a tranny cooler, shift kit, and synthetic fluid make for a great combo.  :thumb:

Its installed.  It is not near as firm as the HD kit, but the shifts are much more positive. :D  This kit is supposed to make my tranny last the longest, so I am happy with it.
