2003 6.0 Oil Pressure Issue

I finally purchased my first full sized Chevy truck a couple weeks ago. It's a 2003 2500HD Base model 6.0 regular cab, not 4wd.

Since i've had it, the oil pressure has been low (or at least showing that way). I've checked the oil and levels are fine. When I say low I mean 5-10# at idle and maybe 30# while going down the road. NO lights have came on indicating low oil or anything. My question is, is it likely a bad gauge, or is it more likely the sending unit or worse? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Does any auto parts stores do this for free? I'm going to be taking it on a trip from Ohio to Tennessee next month pulling a trailer or camper. Since it runs just fine and shows no issues to speak of, would I likely be ok to make the trip? Of course I will get it checked before then but just thought I would throw that out there.

Auto parts store won't do this. Probably have to take to a shop. Hard to guess for trip? Could be nothing, could be serious. Sounds a little low to me, but if light is not comming on its within gms specs.

Thats good to hear I guess. Is there a chance the gauge is bad and since its not actually low the light wont come on?

Could be sending unit or gauge. Could be oil pump. Or it could be you've got worn out crank/rod/cam bearings. I'd have it checked sooner rather than later

You could have it scanned with a scanner that can read engine data and see what the ECM is actually reading
