2002 4.3 sileverado no stort

I have discounted fuel line before filter and run fuel line to can pump about 1 sec. then quits. should it continue with no pressure? seem to have good pressure at Schrader valve. but truck only starts with starting fluid

Take a pressure reading at the valve. Key on engine off.

 

Pump will not continue to run the way you're expecting it to
