'03 1500HD Launch Shudder (Yes I know again...)

Hi, I'm new to the forum.

I've done a lot of research about issues with my truck on a lot of different forums, but I feel now is the time I really need to ask the specific questions I have, so please bare with me if I'm not doing this correctly. Any helpful suggestions to posting in this forum would be greatly appreciated as well.

 

Launch shudder on 2 piece driveshaft. I've read a lot about it. Replaced carrier bearing, u joints, it's still there. I tried Lubeguard shudder stop after replacing the filter and flushing the BLACK fluid in the system that was smelling like something burning. Burning smell went away. Replaced plugs, wires, switched to airaid intake tube w/dry filter, pcv valve, changed rear diff fluid to lucas synthetic, seafoam intake cleaner, run only 89 octane and only fill up on post, and will continue to tune up as money comes (active duty army ) I've asked three different mechanics how my drive line angles in reference to the shudder is and they said it was nothing out of the normal. Truck was lifted with aftermarket keys and blocks in the back and a shim added at the carrier. SHOULD ALSO NOTE that when I'm in a slick or mud situation and floor it, there is zero shudder, just spinning tires like it should. Any other suggestions? I think the previous owner had larger tires on it. Currently have 265/70R/16's now which are small. Thinking about putting 37" military tires on. I also get a "hobble" at about 42-46mph but I think that's just from all the tires haviing a broken cord in them. Would doing this also slightly change my driveline angles to make "smooth it out"? I'm all about killing two birds with one stone. Really don't want to rebuild the tranny or replace torque converter if it's just a cheap sensor.

Been reading other topics in this forum...could a leaking intake gasket cause this? My truck does seem like it's missing just a little, but noticeably, when I take off from a cold start, but is fine when I take off starting up warm. Always happens when I start it up and take off first thing in the morning. Could this cause a launch shudder ALL the time taking off while giving it a "little" throttle?

Gaskets Very well could cause a shudder, but not too sure about that. You sound like you covered alot but missed greasing of the splines on the output shaft of the tranny/ inside of the front yoke on rear dshaft. Common issue on those. Causes launch shudder.

Thanks for the response. I'll try the grease first. What type of grease you recommend for that? And just grease the heck out of it?

Just put some Lucas heady duty in the yolk and drove around to let it get worked in. Still doing it.

That's too bad, it usually works for a while at least (until yoke replacement). I'm out of ideas without seeing the truck...

One more idea... Since it's a 2 piece driveshaft and therefore the rear piece is shorter, it would be more sensitive to pinion angle problems since it's lifted. Check it out.

I'll see if I can get a good picture of the angles. I took it to a very trusted mechanic and he said it doesn't look bad at all, but maybe everyone on here could say something different?
