Hypertech is a Joke!

I purchased the Hypertech Programmer for my 2002 Z71 2 weeks ago and not only are the "download programs a joke, all the advertisements by the sellers and the company are misleading!

The main reason I bought the thing was for the "selectable shift points" what they just dont happen to tell you is that you can only adjust full throttle shift points!, and after programming, my part throttle shift points were actaully at lower speeds causing the engine to lag because its not keeping in its power range, plus it also caused the TCC to not engage at times causing a loss in fuel mileage (TCC scanned with Tech2 at my Dealership)

Then if you use the "harder shift option" you find its not selectible and not even as crisp as pushing the tow haul button, plus it will "bang" into gear on cold morings on the 1-2 shift. I also noticed no real power gains after their so-called performance upgrade.

After talking to another company they informed me that the main Hypertech performance inhancements were only for full throttle operation(like I need that for every-day driving).

Well without dragging this out any further if you want to waste your money on a $350 Programmer thats best at changing tire size and your top speed this is it!

I sent back the Hypertech (which cost me $60) and ordered the Diablo Sport Predature Programmer today, which according to the websight not only has scan tool capabilities and performance programming, lets you fine tune their program and can build your own and make all performance adjustments (now thats what im talking about!) I'll let you know how it goes when the Predator gets here next week.

I would prefer only full-throttle boots.  I wouldn't want extra wear on my innards driving every day...  But I suppose if you were an off-roader you would want the improvements at the full range.  But I just drag race in my 2WD....

Blue Ghost,

Well that's half correct.  I don't know about you but on my 2002 GMC Sierra 4.8 it made a big difference.  After I lifted my truck I really felt the '35 from a dead stop.  My truck felt sluggish.  I too got mine off E-Bay (however not as cheap as Dihappy) & after I used the Power Tuning for 87 octaine I can really tell the difference.  It's like I never lifted the truck and don't have '35's.  A huge improvement!  Now when I step on the gas she really moves like before.  As for the not being able to customize your shift points that was a little dissappointing.  However after talking to the dealer he said that the transmission is auto secening (sp).  I also made the adjustments for the tire size, raised the tire speed and left the rest stock.  It's an little expensive however I feel it's well worth the price and will pay for it's self in the long run.  My next project is a cold air intake.  I'll install that this weekend. :thumb:
