Carfax question

Sorry if this isn't the right section but I really wasn't sure where this fits in.

If a vehicle had an accident while still on the dealer lot, before ever being sold, would it get reported to Carfax?

I'm guessing it would as the dealer would be filing an insurance claim. Reason for asking is the driver ruined the bed on the 2014 High Country 6.2 i ordered while taking it off of the carrier. They replaced it with the bed off of another 2014 but I'm not going to pay over 50K for a vehicle that has a Carfax history before I ever bought it.

Thanks in advance.

If the dealer reported it, yes. If not, no. Why would you even consider taking that truck?

I'll consider it if the price is right, but I am more than a little sure I will not be buying it.

Interesting article, thanks Ryan

I have a good relationship with this dealer but my concern is what if that changes, then i have an expensive truck with a history. I typically keep my trucks 2 to 3 years so what would happen when i go to trade this back in. Especially if something goes sour with this dealer before that time comes and I try to trade it in with another dealer. I'm thinking the value would take a big hit.

Unless I really needed the truck right now I'd refuse it and have them order me another one. Bonus is the new one would be a '15.

I'm already driving a 2014 LTZ so i am in no hurry.

And i'm not sure i'd even want a 2015 where it will have the new 8 speed in it. I'd rather they went back to 4 speed, i liked the shifting better in the 4.

I'll never trust those carfax reports. They rely too heavily on people reporting things correctly. Also, I deffinately wouldnt take delivery of that truck knowing its history given it was ordered unless they gave me a sizeable markdown. In the long run its probably not an issue but I'd tell em to order me a new one anyways.

My wife got t-boned by someone pulling out of a parking lot. They had to repair the front fender, replace the drivers door, pull the B pillar back out, and repair the rear door.

Carfax when we sold it said that the fender had been repainted....
