OK. More questions. I went to the local performance shop and was asking him about tire size for a stock Tahoe LS or LT. I want to put 265's on the truck as soon as I get it. I am told that this is the stock size on the Z71. He said that the Size would not fit due to the suspension difference. He said that the Z71 is taller than the LT or LS. Is this true? If so would I be able to change the shocks to the Z71 shocks to fix this. I would really like to put these on there. I would rather not go with 245's. I will be getting the BFG All Terrain T/A's. Is there a way to reduce the sag in the susp? That would be cool.

And 2 what is the 4WP shop? I know it is a 4X4 shop but what does it stand for. Do they have a web site for a dealer locator? I live in northern NJ. Do you know of any near me? Thanks for the help.

Most Tohoes are shipped sitting on P265/70R16

The Tahoe Z71's have P265/70R17

You really have to look really hard to find The LT245/75R16 mounted on a Tahoe. I think they come on the serious utility model sold to something like the forestry service.

My LS rides just fine on Goodyear Wrangler HP P265/70R17 and Escalade 17" wheels. I'm really considering going to 275's if I can find them.

My friend has a 1999 Tahoe LT model. It had 245's on it and he went to 265/75/16's with no problem. I don't think he even had to crank the torsion bars...

I have P265/70R16 Firestones on my 2000 Yukon 2wd SLE. They're the original tire from the factory. I haven't had any problems with that size tire fitting. I even removed the factory self-leveling shocks and put on Bilstein HDs and that lowered my back end more than an inch, but still no problems as far as I can tell.

Thanks fo rall the info guys. What is the difference between a 265/70 16 and a 265/75 16? Does the 75 make a big difference?

That refers to the profile of the tire, Jersey.

Let's take a 265/70 16 tire

265 mm = 10.43 inches

a 70 is 70% tall as it is wide, or 185.5 mm or 7.30 inches

7.30 + 16 inch wheel + 7.30 = 30.6 inches overall high

Let's take a 265/75 16 tire

265 mm = 10.43 inches

a 75 is 75% tall as it is wide, or 198.75 mm or 7.82 inches

7.82 + 16 inch wheel + 7.82 = 31.64 inches overall high

The 265/75 is slightly over an inch taller than the 265/70 on a 16 inch wheel. The difference in height is in the sidewall. Note that if you change the width to a 275, that will change all the other measurements, too.

Cool. Thanks for that info peagesus. Now would the 265/75 16 fit under the Tahoe? Or would I go with the 265/70 16? If This stuff gets confusing. At least I have time to think about it all. I still didn't get the truck. But the end of this month it should be in my driveway. Again thanks for all the help.

I have 285/75/16 BFG's on my 2001 LT (no autoride) 4WD and have had no problems with clearance. You will have no problems with the 265/75/16

Thanks. No 4WP any where near me. Not even PA and NY. Oh well. I feel better knowing I can put the tires I want on there. I would love 285's but I know those would rub. My friends father has a 2000 Tahoe and he has put 285's on and they rub on extreme turns, big bumps and when backing up. He put aftermarket wheels on as well. I am pretty sure it is just the plastic underneath. He keeps saying he will cut it down but he hasn't for a year and a half now. Whenever I am in the truck or driving it it drivves me crazy. I would never let my truck do that. I had a 1967 Beetle and I lowered the front 2.5" I had to cut the fenders a lot to get the tires not to rub. And they still rubbed so I bought wider fenders for it. Man was it sweet looking. I never got them attatched or painted because I ran out of money and patience. I sold the car. But back to the point. Everybump I hit would be like shoving a pin through my head. I hate un necesarry noise. OK I am done.
