Cluster part# - Can anybody confirm

I wasn't sure exactly where this needed to go so if it needs to be moved, please do.

Can anybody confirmed a part number for me? Hopefully somebody with dealer access can do it.

I might need to replace my cluster because of a bad tach motor and I don't think the GMT-900 clusters have stepper motors like the previous 02-06 trucks. I want to replace it myself rather than go to the dealer since it will probably be cheaper even with having them reprogram the cluster to my VIN and mileage.

The two part numbers I found on gmpartsdirect.com are 20958779 and 22838429 but both said that they were replaced with an updated part number. Can somebody confirm if either of those part numbers will work with my truck or what the most up-to-date part number for the cluster is?

The truck is a 2008 Silverado CC 4x4 w/ 5.3L and 4-speed and 6-gauge cluster. The last 8 of the VIN are 81100669 if that makes it easier.

I know I won't be able to get the cluster from gmpartsdirect or the dealer but I want to make sure that the part numbers on the clusters I found online will work. If it is also possible, can you provide all previous part numbers as well incase it is an old part number?

It still has stepper motors. You can order all the parts to repair yourself off ebay. Or send you cluster in for full repair. You can still drive the vehicle with the cluster removed

Thanks. If I have to do that I might just go ahead and replace the cluster. I can find them on ebay for about $120-150. I would rather not mess with removing the needles, etc to repair it.

I have the temp and compass in my rearview mirror. If I were to get a cluster online that came from a truck with the temp and compass in the cluster, would it show up in the cluster once I put it in my truck or would it only be in the mirror?

Do all GMT-900/NNBS clusters work in all GMT-900/NNBS trucks or does it have to come from a truck with the same engine and trans?

Does anybody also know if I get a cluster from a truck that had the temp and compass in the cluster if it will show up when I put it in my truck? My temp and compass is currently in my rearview mirror.

How about upgrading to the 07-13 police silverado 140 speedo!
