I have never mounted an amp back here.

So......Just a quick question for all of you who have mounted amps behind the seats of an extended cab.

What do I do with these vent guide things? Cut them off? Cut them to fit around the amps? If so, do I need to plug the vents?

Any help would be grand.

Sorry, the vents on mine are different. (2500HD CC) but I would not cut them. Can the amp go in between them? Maybe someone with extended cab will post better info. Just my opinion.

I ran into those too when I hid my amp.  I actually put my amp partially inside the vent housing.  The housing on mine was pretty flexible and just stuck out a little but did not hinder the amp nor the seat when I put it back.

I don't know why they have vents in the back of the cabs, kinda wierd to me.

My amps are too big to fit inside them.

And Knuts, neither amp will go between them, as there is a cable on the seat that "Y's" off from the bolt in the center of the floor. The cables would most likely hit the amp...Bad thing.

I would not cut those vents or plug them they are to let the pressure out of the cab when you shut the door.

I'm not cutting the vents. Just the flexible black foam that guides the air to them.

I'm not going to cut them out, just trim them back enough to install the amps, but I will leave enough room for the air to get through.

Otherwise the only place left to mount the amps....Is on the ceiling. :D

You must have some pretty big amps. I'll be curious to see how it comes out though. I will probably add another one in the future and will have to do something similar. I don't think there will be any problem cutting them. I think the vents are actually near the outside of cab. They probably do it like that to help deaden outside noise.

I am putting a Fosgate 700S for the subs, and a Fosgate 500X (4 channel) for mids and highs. They are pretty big, especially when you add the cap, and all the thick a$$ wiring.

Amps are in, vent guide/guard things are cut.

I'm taking quite a few pics, but I think my lazies will get the best of me, so it will be awhile before I post them.

I am discovering that I should have purchased some Dynamat, or something similar....I'll see how bad it is after I finish, and if I think it needs it, I will put it in.

What subs are you putting in??

I ran 4 gauge wire with an 8 gauge dist. block for future upgrades.  :D   You can see it in the picture above.

I have 4 gauge to a distribution box, with 4 gauge going to the 700, and 8 gauge going to the 500.

I have two Kicker Comp V/R 10"....But I think I might change those out due to air constrictions.

Your pic doesn't show up, kshuart..

..but

here is a thread with pics of the subs that are going in.

It's all in there now.

Fosgate 4ch 500x (mids and highs)

Fosgate 2ch 700s (subs)

Infiniti plates in the rear doors.

MB Quart component in the front doors.

2 Kicker Comp V/R  10" under rear seat.

I'll post some pics whenever I put them on the computer.

Hey kshuart....I was thinking of adding the same sub setup to mine.....Do you notice that the bass is coming from one side of the truck verses having a sub behind both seats?....I'm undecided as whether to get a single sub box or a dual....Thanks for your help

I did the single sub setup in my neighbors truck. It sounds great. Because of the way that it fires down, the sound really isn't directional.

Plus, if you go with only one sub...You can mount the amp under the seat vice behind it. Much easier.

Yeah, what wingnut said. :thumb:

Since the sub fires down, actually the sound travels around the side and back of the box. It isn't really concentrated to a single point. I went with the single so I could still have some storage under the seat on the pass. side. It's not even close to being as loud as the two 12's I had in my Trans Am, but it sounds good and balances things out nicely. I still need to make some adjustments to it since I've had it in there a few weeks now. I just got it close when I installed it.  Don't get me wrong though, the rear view mirror will still shake if I turn it up.  If your anywhere near Cincinnati, OH, your more than welcome to look/listen to it.
