So this has probably been discussed before but i was looking for a little input on changing the Trans fluid and filter. I was going to drop the pan abs change the filter, refill it then unhook the cooler line and drain a quart at a time. A buddy told me that if i just dropped the pan and change the filter and then do it again in 500 miles it would be just as good. Any input is appreciated!

Drop/ clean pan, replace filter, add gm fluid, warm up trans then check fluid again, repeat in 500. Correct

I just bought this yukon xl. It has almost 100,000 miles on it. It has a brake controller so i assume the previous owner towed alot. This method of just dropping the pan would be effective enough?

Need more info. Is it a 2500, 4 speed or 6?

1500 I believe 4 speed. It's a 2008. I believe the Trans is the 4L60. I'm not having any problems at all. just a little preventive maintenance.

Yes as i stated above the procedure for maintenance. There are a couple other things you could do to extend the life of your 60e

I would drain some out of the cooler line first so the pan is a little easier to take off( less of a mess with the pan half full). I did the whole process of draining some fluid from pan, dropping pan to change filter, reinstall pan with a little fluid in it, fill pan from the dip stick hole, then changing the rest of the fluid out through the cooler line. Took about 45 mins to do. Hardest part was trying to put the pan back on ha.
