Fifth Wheel Towing question

I have a 2004 Sierra 2500HD, long bed, standard cab, 6.0 gas 4WD with tow package and 4.10 gears. My manual says my max trailer weight is 10,300. There is no spec for pulled trailer vs fifth wheel other than you can go heavier tongue with the fifth wheel.

I was under the impression that a truck could pull more trailer with a fifth vs conventional, and have seen later model trucks that do specify two different capacities.

I don't know if the capacities are truly the same on my truck or if GM just didn't publish the differences back then.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks in advance!

There are some different weights. Your tongue weight comes out of the payload. You'd also have a max overall trailer weight and a max combined weight.

We have the same truck except ours is an extended cab , and we pull and stop our 5th wheel just fine . we have a 28ft 5th wheel that weighs around 11,000 loaded . we don't pull all the time maybe 5-6 times a year or less
