2014 Silverado four wheel drive shifting problems>

My truck is only two weeks old with 1000 miles on it. I live in Minnesotain a rural area so getting in and out of my driveway can be difficult so generally keep my truck in the Auto four wheel drive mode at all times. Two days ago after sitting outside in below zero weather I remote started the truck for warm-up. When I went to start out and put the truck into drive I noticed the Service Four Wheel Drive alert come up on the screen. I thought it was part of the self test the vehicle goes through so I click the disregard button. Not sure what happened but did not notice if the truck was in high four wheel drive or not but the selector remained on the auto setting. When I got done with work nine hours later when I went to drive away I noticed the truck was definitely in four wheel drive mode, but this time in the low mode. I could not get it to come out of low four wheel drive. Called the dealer service department and they had me try different setting and shut the vehicle off and restart but nothing worked. I have fifty miles home from work so my dealer suggested going to the GM dealer in the town where I work and not to drive the vehicle. The dealer there said they were too busy to look at the truck but told me they have had four or five 2014 1500 Silverado's with the same problem and there was a service bulletin out on the problem, but get this GM doesn't have a fix for it. Evidently the Automatic Transfer Case on Some of these vehicles have a condition in which an electric signal short or software glitch may cause the active transfer case to switch without operator input. The transfer case mode selection knob would still indicate the last selected drive mode, and the driver will not have any feedback that the transfer case has shifted.

I looked at the service bulletin and it was dated December 22, 2014! So now I am pissed off as I have to get home somehow. I call my dealer again and they say they will pick up the truck in the evening with a flatbed tow truck! Remember this truck only has 1000 miles! So I get a hold of my wife, and I'm sure you can understand her mood when I tell her she has to drive the 50 miles to pick me up and the 50 miles to take me home again!! The next day, yesterday, the local dealer calls to tell me they have the truck out of four wheel drive and in the 2 wheel high mode. So I ask what the fix is and they too tell me there is no fix! Can you believe this? The service bulletin suggests keeping the truck in a heated garage (they don't furnish those where I work!!), and only shift into four wheel drive or auto four wheel when the vehicle is started. The best part is that when you shut the vehicle off make sure the drive selector is always turned to 2 wheel drive only. I don't know about you, but I know I going to forget about that again at some point and be stranded with the thing in four wheel drive low again!!! In the mean time the service department tells me GM is working on a fix. People, this is a $53,000 sticker price vehicle! I mean they must have known about this problem for over a year because not only are the 2014 models affected but also some 2015's! And this was Truck of the Year?!!!!!!!! What should my next move be on this vehicle as this is totally unacceptable and not even sure when if ever they will have a fix and I can't be without four wheel drive for my commute and getting out of my yard!!!

That's a lot of exclamation points ,!!!

Don't worry you only have another 10 or so computers in your truck ,

You can blame people in general because they want to hit a wee button instead of lever waaaaay down on the floor to shift the tcase

Nice rant though

Good luck , let us know what happens
