gas gauge stuck on full

Hi All - I have a 2500HD ,Silverado 99'- gas gauge will not come off of full. After doing a bunch of searching on different web sites yesterday, seems like a common problem with the sending unit in the tank.?

 

Anyone know of way to test this without dropping the tank.?

Maybe it the gauge cluster andd not the sending unit...

I would first check the gauges... famous inperfection design and lots of complaints on this

My truck has a similar problem. Its a 2000 sierra 1500 but it will sit on empty when the truck is parked but once you get going and hit some bumps it works.
