2007 avalanche

For the past year I have had been having issues with my 2007 Avalanche. I first noticed my cruise control going out. Next was my fuel gauge was reading up until 1/4 tank where I would then run out of fuel. Then about 6 months ago my battery started dying. I have gone through 3 batteries so far. The headlights are flashing constantly as I drive down the road and the voltage guage in the truck goes from 12 to 15 volts. I have a red top Altima in it right now. I replaced the brake switch to fix the cruise control, but it didn't work. It has been to the dealership for a total of 5 times. They first told me that it was the BCM. They kept the truck for a week and said that was the issue. When I got it back, there was an error code to service the brakes. I also noticed my brakes felt different. They told me to replace the brake booster and master cylinder. I replaced the booster and master cylinder. Brakes still feel different and service brakes light still on. My battery is still dying. I took it back to the dealership and they said they couldn't find the error. They told me that the negative cable shows a little low on resistance but is in the normal range. The service brake display went off, drove fine with no brakes issues, and truck lasted like this for about 2 weeks. Then recently the brake service display started up again. My brakes started acting different again, the battery has died 3 times in 3 weeks. I trickle charge the battery each time. Then yesterday, I am backing out of a parking spot and my sensor starts to sound. I pout truck in drive and the beeping continues for atleast a minute of forward driving. My traction control light turns on. I finish driving and park the truck. I left truck parked for 3 hours. It starts up fine. I drive truck short distance and turn it off. It sits for 4 hours. I get back in truck and it starts fine. I drive it 30 minutes and park truck over night. 8 hours later I go to start the truck and the battery is dead. Anyone have any suggestions on how to diagnose the issue or solve the issue. The dealership costs too much. They want $220 to fix the negative cable but said they doubt it will fix the truck's issue.

Ahh the wonders of electronics!

Just FYI, low resistance on either battery cable is good - you want the power to flow unimpeded.

I'd steer clear of the dealer on anything that's not under warranty - just my .02. Find a good local shop that specializes in electrical. Could be as simple as a bad diode in the alternator, to a whole host of wiring or module issues. Good luck on this one! :ughdance:

You have a parasitic draw , not one mention of that , you also never mentioned the code they got from the EBCM for the brake message , wtf dude !!! More info , a lot is missing. Get your receipt and read it and better yet , post it

They sent email on excel because I was out of town the first time it went in. And was left on street to pick up when I got it. They never told me the message code or put it on any paperwork.

    • The oil filter has NOTHING To do with oil leak. GM sources parts from 1,000's of vendors and as with anything mass produced, flaws are unavoidable.    Putting a larger oil filter will do nothing but satisfy emotions. The OEM filter is designed for the engine and perfectly capable of handling the demands on the engine. Oversize oil filter could result in reduced flow and overall lower oil pressure.
    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
