new 2015 silverado Z71 build and introduction

Recommended Posts

Hey fellas, welp a few weeks ago, i bought my 2015 silverado Z71 4x4 crew cab, its also a custom sport edition, and the color is black, so everything is painted to match from the factory, minus the chrome door handles and mirrors. But ill fix that soon. Anyways, ive been doing lots of research as far as lift kits go and tires etc, and several of my searches on google led me back to this site, which i found some good info from. So i figured I'd start a build thread in here and share my experience and excitement with you all, as well. Im not new to the forums, im a member on ls1tech because im an avid fbody (camaro trans am) enthusiast, and i race so, help out on there when i can. So anyways, had the truck a few weeks and i put some exhaust on it last week. Used the classic 40 series single in/out dunped it for now. I used the single in and out (i usually dump the dual outlet flowmasters) because my buddies brother owns a mineke and he is hooking me up, going to run a 3" pipe to the rear of the truck and dump it with a 6" nice chrome tip centered in the rear of the truck basically right where the spare tire goes. Holding off on the rest of that pipe and tip until i get it lifted, which brings me to the next topic, all the goodies i bought for it.

Ive always usually lowered my vehicle's, mainly because i never could afford the opposite (lifting costs much more as im sure most of you know lol) but now that ive got my life on track (after some rough yrs of my youth) i can afford to do the this, something ive only dreamed about.

So i bought the McGaughys 7-9" SS suspension lift, because theres alot more support from this lift and it gives the full drop of 7" which keeps the angles looking right. Its black also. But they sent me someone elses kit and they received mine! So im in the process of swapping kits with the other guy. Should be here next week. Just last night i recieved my Zone 1.5" body lift. So total lift should have me right around 11" with the mcgaughys set at 9". Now for the wheels and tires i went with black 22x14" fuel hostages with a -76 offset wrapped in 37"x13.5R22 Toyo MT's. Thats why im lifting it to 11". And before someone decides to nagg me for the "look" i prefer, plz save it, because you wont catch me trying to belittle your taste in mods. Anyways, the wheels and tires shipped out from custom offset yesterday, so those should be here next week also. So probably thurs or fri im having everything installed. Im really excited about all this. Ive only dreamed of a new Z71. But let alone lift it how i want before i even make the first payment on it. Im very blessed to say the least. And how does the description i gave you guys sound? I know it will look amazing to me and most of the people i know. Thanks for reading. Look forward to hearing from you guys.

I included 2 pics of my truck and the 3rd (silver truck is what mine will look like minus the different tires and all black. But stance and sizes/dimensions will be the same.

Nice nice. I did that with a tundra I had a few years ago. I loved it but had to get rid of it because of the little ones. Post pics when it's all done although it will never be all done. Lol!!!

Ya ita never done. But my turbo 97 camaro Z28 is my major money pit. I promised myself i was gonna leave it alone for a while, but just like with anything else i get into, i start reading and the ideas just get bigger and more expensive lol. But i already bought everything. If it wasnt for mcgaughys sending me the wrong crqp, it would already be lifted. But im sort of glad that happened so i can still get that "wow factor" when i pick it up. Im pretty good at customizing vehicles, in my opinion. I do it to every one i get. And i always try to make sure everything flows and fits together, with a sleek/smooth oriented style to it. So next week ill be sure to post plenty of pics. I ahev alot of other small stuff im going to do to it also. But ill leave a little surprise to it for you guys. Its gonna be sharp. Im very excited. Thanks for your interest and response. Appreciate it.

Probably traded the stock 20's for a profit since he was planning on changing wheels anyhow.

Yeah, kinda what I figured, but what got me curious is that he didn't mention it. I bought the 20s to replace my 18s. Haven't noticed any difference in ride or handling. Truck looks good either way, as does the OP truck.

You nailed it. A guy i work with offered me $1000 for the factory 20's for his 14 Z. And let me use his stockers until mine come in next week. Made sense to me since the truck will be too big to utilize a wheel/tire that small once its lifted up etc. Noticed no change in ride quality at all.

Nice truck

Thank you sir. Likewise. I really like it. Its got some goodies in it too. The nav setup is cool. I always use pandora so its nice to get in and it comes on by itself.

Anyone elses 6 spd act funny at first? Sometimes mine shifts rough at lower rpm and the othee day it hung up from the 2-3 shift under moderate acceleration. Im def goinf to the service department to notate it before i lift it next week. Because with 37's theyd def blame my setup.

Just to update a few more goodies i snatched up, i bought some led halos for the headlights, theyre adjustable colors with the added blue tooth program so i can control and manipulate the colors with my phone. I thought that was pretty cool. Also bought a black fine mesh grill for it. So thats one less piece of chrome deleted, once thats installed. Also im going to powder coat my coils candy apple red, just have to fab up an adapter so i can fuel my oven to bake the powder on. I plan on grabbing myself a pair of HD mirrors for it too. They look very good on the lifted "chebbys" in my opinion lol.

Im also debating on wether i should purchase the amp electronic steps, or just go the simple and much cheaper route and grab those small single steps. The ones about 6" wide just enough for one foot. I like a sleek simple look, so i hate the long running boards. The truck actually came with nice boards already on it, but i took them off as soon as i got home and sold them also. Im 26. Not 50 (no offense to anyone that has them, theyre not bad, im just kiddin around, but not ny style) if it wasnt for my wife, i wouldnt run anything at all.

How many miles? The trans will take some time to learn your driving style.

Hey Ryan, ive got about 1,700 miles in it so far. And its getting worse it seems. Last week, (only did it that one day, but happened twice) it slipped or hung up on the 2-3 shift i believe under moderate acceleration. Also i don't know if its a contributing factor, but does anyone else's rpms float up and down back and forth no matter the gear 200-300 rpms just driving i can watch the needle going up and down up and down. Like i said its nothing major, but i was wondering if it was related to my possible tranny issue. Like i mentioned before, tomorrow im going to the dealership where i bought it, so they can notate it, that way once i lift it, if something happens i can say it was an existing problem.
