1999 Silverado Power Lumbar Repair

Recommended Posts

I have a 1999 Silverado ("new style" LT) in which the power lumbar does not fully work. It DOES move but not right. I lifted the seat cover enough to see that the plastic piece that does the movement/support is broken along the bottom about a half inch or an inch above where it fits into the to metal hooks.

Can this part be replaced? I have searched the net and found very little info on the system ... can't find a part number for the plastic piece or even the entire assembly.

Any thoughts?

I have some additional information. The entire assembly, part number 88944135, has been discontinued and so far I cannot find it. I DID find part number 88939289 which LOOKS like it is just the part I need. But I can't tell ... the drawings on the various sites as well as at the dealer are very generic.

Has anyone on here repaired their own lumbar unit? Mine is power ... I am wondering if the part ending in 289 is for the manual lumbar system ... but if it could be used to repair mine.

Just because its "discontinued" does not mean you cant buy it. Have them search the nation and look up the pn on ebay

Done both. No dealer anywhere has it, searches on the internet show availability that turns out false, and eBay has not had it listed at all. Right now I am working with the original manufacturer of the system to see if they can get me parts or a unit that will easily fit. Schukra is the company, based in Canada.

I'll update when the part arrives, but Schukra is AMAZING. My truck is 16 years old and they are sending me the part (they call it a basket) at no charge. I'd say that is some great customer service. The new part is metal rather than plastic. I'll have to see how hard it is to change when I change the leather covering.

I'll post pics soon. The part installed in minutes -- it is a very nice design. Schukra really came through on this. The lumbar support now works perfectly again.

I neglected to update this previously; here are some photos. For reasons unknown, I never took a full picture of the new part which is a Schukra ("internal") part # 5023003A. This fits the 1999 Silverado new style and whatever variants use the same system.

Photos of the black plastic one are my old broken part showing where it broke. The new part is metal and two of those three are of it installed in the seat back.

Installation, once the seat was opened up (foam lifted and back accessible) took about a minute. It's a really nice design, actually. Support from Schukra was nothing short of superb.
