Accelerator Pedal Travel

Recommended Posts

Have any of you noticed that the gas pedal travel in trucks with throttle by wire (2001 and newer) seems to be less than the older trucks with a cable throttle linkage? When I mash the gas pedal in my truck, the pedal just doesn't seem to move as much as my '99. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this too.

you mean 03 and newer dont you?  The trucks that I have driven with the throttle by wire have way less throttle response.  Good 1/4 travel before it does anything

No, 8.1's had ETC in '02.

Then the rest were converted in '03.  Vette's have had it since '97.

As to travel, never noticed.  All I care is what happens when I fully depress it.  :flag:

Throttle controlled by a wire cable? or Electronic?  A little solenoid motor will be mounted to the TB if that's the case.  An old cable system with bracket will be there if it's a wire system

It is electronic.  Also my son-in-law's 2002 1500HD 6.0L LS is the same, as is my 2003 2500HD dmax.

My 2001 and son-in-law's 2002 have traction control.  My 2003 does not have traction control, but does have fly-by-wire throttle like the other two.

Just wanted to clear that up.  Throttle cable is technically wire you know.  :flag:

I thought '02 was the first year for ETC, then '03 all other truck engines got it.

Please post pics, those would be rare animals in my neck of the woods.

It might be beneficial to others (like myself) to see a pic.

From 2001 onward "fly by wire" throttle was installed on trucks which had the "Traction Control" option.

I have a 2001 2500HD with the 8.1 and no traction control. My truck is fly-by-wire.

Ditto!  8100 HD's don't have an option for traction control and I know my TB is electronic.

I can understand that having traction control would change it to an ETC TB system.  But it appears that what happened is whatever supplier kept the factory going that week is what got installed on the trucks.    There seems to be no clear cut definitive answer.
