Painting Stock Rims

I have a 2015 with the 18" silver aluminum wheels that I would like to do black. I already plasti dipped them to see how it would look and I liked it so I peeled that off and would like to paint them now. I don't have extra money to have them done professionally or to buy new wheels as I'm trying to save up for an exhaust plus with my family of 5 we have other expenses so I thought this would be a cheap way to make the truck look different. Anyways was wondering if anyone has done this yet and how does it turn out. Also how much do I have to sand the factory wheels down or should I just use a self etching primer? I'm going to use duplicolor black wheel paint and clear.
